I change my mind a lot.
I don't think it's a case of wanting to be different I just think that some music lasts & some music gets old pretty quickly. There are plenty of times when i've heard a bands first couple of singles & loved them & got really excited about an album , then when the album comes out you find the singles are the only good songs on it.

Changing your opinion is growth. Who wants to listen to the same 100 albums for the rest of their life. And who hears everything there's to hear on the first listen.

I honestly don't understand whats so great about AC/DC.

tdoc210 05-04-2007 07:28 PM

ac dc is boring
and highly over rated and every high school jock listens to them well at leats the greatest hits

Merkaba 05-04-2007 09:05 PM

I'm the opposite, I really can't see why ACDC take such a bad rap. Other than many people loving them and sometimes being overly vocal about them, whats there really to not like? They have their boring moments I guess, I mean I didn't think much of Stiff Upper Lip, but then the entire BIB album is golden.

I just find a lot of their stuff to be feel-good music. There is no shortage of clever riffs and the band work is complementary of them. I don't listen to ACDC and go "woo me with your superior skills" or "lets see if you can make me give a shit about the lyrics". I don't think ACDC were musicians to be broken down and understood. All ACDC did was make rock songs, and as far as I know, they're "classic" because they consistently made rock songs better than anyone else.

In saying that, I can understand if someone hates the vocals. I hated James Hetfield for a long time for that reason, and his vocals aren't nearly as obtrusive as Brians.

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-04-2007 09:10 PM

I think people hate AC/DC for the same reason they hate the Ramones , they refuse to change. In some bands i'd see that as a negative. But in the case of AC/DC & The Ramones I think those 2 bands do what they do better than anybody else. I love AC/DC's 70s albums with Bon Scott they're much more bluesy & Scott's lyrics are miles better than anything Johnson wrote, those albums are a mile away from the pop rock that came along later on.
I actually really liked Stiff Upper Lip , It reminded me of those early albums.

sleepy jack 05-04-2007 09:25 PM

I can understand that, I just don't see why people think their one of the best bands ever. They're good at what they do and everything, but it wasn't anything innovative, and theres no problem with that its just they get hype as one of the best bands ever with a catalog of amazing albums and I don't understand that.

sleepy jack 05-04-2007 09:27 PM

I'm going to do one for Bright Eyes, Elliott, Drake, The Smiths and maybe the Beatles nexttt.

^^ Thats the thing Crow, the people that call them the best thing ever, have ACDC on their iPods in amongst Akon and Adema and Britney Spears. They're the same ones that are radio listeners only (though I don't mean that in completely negative way). The people that tend to love ACDC but don't shout to the world about them are the people more like myself and Crowe and Urban who can put ACDC into perspective. Even boo boo loves ACDC but he's not one to say the're the best thing ever.

Oh and Urban, 110% agree with you on the "resistance to change" being a huge quality for ACDC, where for other bands it fails miserably.

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-04-2007 09:33 PM

I think one of the reasons I love AC/DC so much isn't because they've put out spectacular albums , but because I can put on any of their albums from any time in their career & enjoy it. There are not many bands that have been around for over 30 years that I can say that about.

Of course, everyone changes their opinions over the years... You change your opinions every 15 minutes.

But really, I don't change my opinions very much, I try to expand it.

What's with the personal shit? Every few months I go back to hear an album I didn't like before and I hear something that I didn't before and dig it. I almost never get old of the stuff I like so I guess I expand mine too.

Reading this thread with interest and it's still strange to see people really bitching about other peoples music tastes after all this time. I am 35 and grew up listening to metal, but had always liked stuff that was'nt metal (this was in mid-late 80's) I.E THE DOORS, MARILLION, PINK FLOYD etc, and got a lot of ribbing from fellow friends of not being true to my preferred genre-what a load of horse**** I thought-I cut my hair ditched the leathers and listened to what I want. As I said I am now 35 with two kids, no hair and a sensible job and I still listen to what i want, and don't care one iota about anyone elses opinions nor do I belittle anyone else's. My eldest son listens to godawful commercial rap-I hate it, but it's his choice and I cant belittle him for that. By all means discuss and cogitate each others musical tastes, but don't rip the **** out of them, if people are listening to stuff that's not considered mainstream-then it's all good. Even bands like RHCP that are seemingly mainstream, most definitely are'nt. You go to any 100 random houses in England or USA and I bet less than a quarter would have a RHCP album. Just because lots of bands are smaller than others does'nt neccessarily mean they are better-concentrate on what you listen to and that's it. I listen to everything from Ambient to Death Metal, Dub to Old punk and love it all-just chill out people-the world would be boring if we all liked the same stuff!
