I can't wait till anything orbiting around emo is dead. ****in Nirvana and their sad rock ruined music forever.

There is a God...and his name is Bowie.

Also, I propose the final should go down to a poll of 2 only...then justice will prevail!

Kevorkian Logic 04-24-2007 03:34 PM

Bright Eyes won??

Wierd

Some noob probably madee 5 accounts to vote for them. Bright Eyes are terrible and should never be in a best band poll.

sleepy jack 04-24-2007 05:02 PM

Bright Eyes isn't terrible, just because they don't have boring twenty minute solos, sing about dragons and wear dumb costumes doesn't mean they're not good.

I also don't see why its shocking they've made it this far, has anyone looked at the lastfm charts? Bright Eyes is usually up there higher than bowie and most of the other bands that advanced pretty far in the polls.

Kevorkian Logic 04-24-2007 05:05 PM

hey I'm going to use your post for an example of a logical fallacy (project for English). Just thought you might want to know (I don't know why though)

sleepy jack 04-24-2007 05:09 PM

...What was wrong with it?

Yeah cause Nirvana were totally emo and invented it. They were a huge influence on Bright Eyes, I mean seriously folk being sad? WTF Whos done that before? Not Johnston, Drake, Joyner or Cohen. All folk was guthrie rip off and singing about being pawns in their game and tambourine men right?

Don't even get more started on them introducing sadness to rock, Love Will Tear Us Apart, Walk Away Renee, that shit was way too happy. Thank god for Nirvana.

swim 04-24-2007 05:58 PM

I find it funny that big3 mention emo bands winning over other bands when the emo band in this thread is being murdered.

oh wait nvm i remember that time that Conor did the cover of I'm out Back Sleeping or Fucking or Something yea that was hawt

TheBig3 04-24-2007 06:32 PM

Blah blah blah to the both of you, who cares what came before Nirvana, it made that awful garbage popular and you know it. I don't even dislike Nirvana, but their influence has been as large as it as been detrimental.

And here we go again with the genre wars. [Terrible Metaphor Warning] If you live inside of a house your entire life, don't try and tell me what the outside looks like. We have forums for that its call "Rock & Metal."

A_Perfect_Sonnet 04-24-2007 06:38 PM

Nirvana made that awful genre GRUNGE popular. We've had to deal with lame ass Pearl Jam rip-offs for years now - vocally and musically.

You actually think Nirvana was a huge influence on Bright Eyes? Bright Eyes sounds more like a cross between Joyner and Johnston with his own stuff thrown in and his stuff that actually got mainstream attention was a country/folk album, a folktronicaish album and Cassadaga which is an alt-country. Not boring seattle garage rock.

You need to word your metaphors better, seriously. And you're just pissed because you came in and tried to burn bright eyes without knowing what you were talking about.

Yeah I agree with this, Pearl Jam has had a horribly strong influence on Modern Rock radio, which isn't their fault, but it is what it is.

No, I'm pissed because a lot of good bands lost to Bright Eyes when fevers (or whatever album had the radio interview) was one of the more pretentious albums ever made. And since when have you know what you're talking about? You can make a connection from Bright Eyes to Sunny Rollins if you want to, and its much easier to Nirvana. I don't think what I said was any more correct or incorrect than what you said.

Edit: And whoa where is the perfunctory "grunge isn't a genre" comment, or do we save that for people we don't like?

Inuzuka Skysword 04-24-2007 08:06 PM

I actually love the sad sound of music, though whiny vocals are annoying. I believe music that is happy all the time is pretty annoying because it doesn't connect, with me at least. I mean Doom Metal, my favorite genre, uses a lot of sad and depressing emotions in its music. That may be one of the main reasons I like it better then Death Metal. Nobody is truely 100% happy with their life so music that is always happy has no soul in it.

It's not like Bright Eyes sounds remotely emo and someone halfway educated on it would get it confused so war is slightly harsh. I prefer using blatant terms correctly.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 04-24-2007 10:08 PM

Grunge isn't a genre?

Let me get this straight. You're blaming Nirvana for bands that were influenced by Pearl Jam?

That very sentence is mind numbingly stupid.

No. It's a movement, consisting mainly of hardcore punk influenced bands.

I completely agree, Fevers and Mirrors was a pretentious album, especially the interview. He was making fun of himself and the album, thats some of the most pretentious shit ever!

Bright Eyes shouldn't be this far, I really wanted the last poll to be the White Stripes, Zeppelin, Radiohead, Pink Floyd and The Smiths!

boo boo 04-24-2007 11:26 PM

I honestly believe BE were the worst band in this entire tournament, and yet they're going to end up winning it. Them beating out everyone from The Beatles to Bob Marley to King Crimson to Tom Waits to The Clash is a complete joke as far as I'm concerned.

sleepy jack 04-24-2007 11:28 PM

You realize this isn't the final poll right? And once again, this is a poll of preference. Bright Eyes is fantastic and alot of people here think so. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean its terrible.

boo boo 04-24-2007 11:31 PM

They're not terrible because I dislike them, I dislike them because I think they're terrible. :)

Laces Out Dan! 04-24-2007 11:35 PM

Bright Eyes..would make all of your mothers moan like whores.

So fuck off

Merkaba 04-25-2007 02:40 AM

Crowquill said it best when he said it's a poll of personal preference. And I think we all know how popular the emo and singer/songwriters are here compared to the rest of music so it's nothing unexpected when you think about it.

But fuckin' oath, Bowie for sure.

Kevorkian Logic 04-25-2007 03:40 PM

Recount?

Frances 04-25-2007 09:04 PM

Bowie Bowie Bowie!

bright eyes can go suck a fart.

sleepy jack 04-26-2007 12:38 AM

I'm closing the poll two hours early so I can post the next one, I don't see any point in doing a recount if the mods had fixed the polls i'd be able to see it so theres been nothing wrong there.

Bright Eyes and David Bowie win.
