German Music

I'm really digging German tunes lately, and I'd like to find more. As you may expect I was inspired by bands like Rammstein, but I'm sure there's a greater variety out there (although I'd like to stick with that electric/crunchy guitar thing).

What do you recommend?

The Unfan 07-01-2007 01:48 PM

I'm sorry.

Apology accepted.

Anyone else?

Inuzuka Skysword 07-01-2007 02:48 PM

Do they have to speak German or can they just be from Germany?

The Unfan 07-01-2007 02:50 PM

Blind Guardian?

Aw man I was going to mention them, but they don't really speak German. Awesome German bands who don't speak German include:

The Scorpions
Kreator
Sodom
Blind Guardian
Edguy
Ahab

and that is all I can think of atm.

The Unfan 07-01-2007 03:01 PM

Limbogott
Jesus On Extasy
Einstürzende Neubauten
Wumpscut
Haujobb

Pilzkopf 07-01-2007 07:14 PM

Most of the German music I listen to is good old krautrock. If you're interested in it, I'll be happy to school ya!

I speak German :)
I studied some rubbish german pop bands, honestly can't remember who they were now.

I'm pretty sure Franke Potente did a song?
for the Lola Rennt soundtrack.
not that that's what you're into, i'm sure.

GravitySlips 07-03-2007 03:49 PM

I'm listening to Can right now,

Tago Mago is phenomenal. To think this was made in the early 70s as well. Holy god, it's REVOLUTIONARY!

Tago Mago is one of my favorite and most-played albums. Everyone that I had played it for love it.

Neu!..as far as krautrock goes

boo boo 07-04-2007 04:47 AM

I recommend checking out Eloy. Really good German prog band. They're not Krautrock like most German prog bands however. They're more of a traditional prog band.

Pilzkopf 07-05-2007 04:04 PM

If you like Eloy, you might check out Birth Control. Although they have keyboards, they're not as symphonic. They're a bit harder, but not any harder than Deep Purple.

I'm a big fan of the Notwist, especially the newer stuff like Neon Golden. I don't know exactly what you'd call the style of music, "electro-acoustic" maybe. It's like very spare indie rock with electronic beats. Great stuff. There's a related band, Lali Puna, that shares some of the same members and is also really good.

I can only think of two definites and one maybe. The rest of their covers were just weird or normal.
