I'm gonna tell you all a story.

I'm in a band....Well i'm in two but today i'm going to talk about one in particular.

www.myspace.com/gutterstartheband

- Gutter star :)

And like most unsigned bands, we are evidently not alone, but we've narrowed it down and we only share the name with one other currently up and running band that use the web, also unsigned.

Now i'll say they're not very good even though it might just look like i'm trying to stab at them because realistically.....they're not good.

anyway i'll let my singers bulletin on our myspace tell the story.

STOP PRESS!

Legal Dispute

For the last 2 weeks or so, we have been continually threatened with legal action by an American 'punk' band who have the same name as us.

Despite many angry messages from them, claiming to ownership of the trademark, we have yet to receive any hard evidence that they do actually own the name Gutter Star, just more and more petty emails.

A very punk rock attitude, I'm sure you'll all agree...

As well as the threat of legal action, they claim to have reported us to Myspace for copyright infringement, demanding our myspace is deleted, and have also added many people from our Friends list to theirs.

Now, us here at Gutter Star (the one based in the UK, that is) are not at all angry or bitter, like our American counterparts. In fact we find the whole thing quite amusing that they'd stoop to these levels.

It is worth mentioning that neither of us are a famous band and neither of us are a signed band.

Is it really worth their attempts to erase us? I think not and am sure you'd agree. It's not as if we've called ourselves Rancid or The Clash.

We're not asking you to delete them from your Friends list. If you like their bouncy New Found Glory style pop-punk, by all means listen to them and leave them positive feedback.

We're not even asking you to leave them angry comments.

We'd just like you to know what is going on and clear up any confusion as to why another band with the same name as us may have added you to their Friends.

Now, until we receive this confirmation that they truly do own the name, we reamain, as ever, Gutter Star.

Remember kids; There's only one thing worse than being bad mouthed by another myspace band and that's not being bad mouthed by another myspace band.

Love, Light, Peace and Sleaze.

So that's what we've been up to :)
Now unlike Phil.....i'm an arsehole, so if anyone does want to leave a nasty little comment back at them then i shall only applaud you. :)

anyway, don't know why i posted this, thought it might capture some interest, it's music realted none the less, so nene.

any thoughts?

I urge the good people of MusicBanter to rise up and post nasty comments.
Something along the lines of not being as good as that more well known Welsh band of the same name, will do for starters.

Forum Invasion !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D :D :D :D

Edit: F*ck me , they're awful
No wonder they've been unsigned since 2001

How do you leave a message?

Do you have to be a 'friend' first?

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 07-30-2007 04:14 PM

The American band does suck, but if they had the name long before you did, why don't you acknowledge that and change your name?

Change it to something like this

"(The American) Gutter Star Sucks!"

^ Hardly rock 'n' roll, is it!

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 07-30-2007 04:36 PM

You're right, being "rock n' roll" is more important than protecting creative property. As much as I think I may regret calling that trash creative.

right-track 07-30-2007 04:44 PM

I'm agreeing with you.

After hearing that crap I wouldn't want to be in a band that shared the same name, for fear of association.
