She plays an extremely popular form of music and sells millions of albums, that's the definition of mainstream.

Oh, a mere three Grammies. Yeah, she really toils in obscurity.

You implied she was massively popular... and yes there is a difference which is why I compared her to Rihanna who is a POP star.

I didn't imply anything. I stated the fact that she is massively popular. She has sold literally millions of albums.

Why would anybody care what the music industry think?
All they're interested is what they can sell, not what the quality is.

I remember when he did that album with Loretta Lynn, you really think that album would have generated the interest it did with the popular press without his involvement. And you pick up any music magazine in 2001 and all you'll read about is how Jack White got bands like The Von Bondies, Electric Six, The Detroit Cobras, The Soledad Brothers got record deals primarily because of their connection with Jack White.

And if you are talking about currently then my first point was valid, he's only been a solo artist a few months.

But why are you comparing what he did with a group during the height of his BANDS popularity? That has NOTHING to do with right now.

Whether it was two people or not it was still a group and most lead singers are the leading faces of their group but it is still a group, Sade being a perfect example.

Even before he went solo.... he was underrated individually and this was way after his popularity died down. His solo projects/collaborations showed that he expanded beyond what he did with his other band mate that was not acknowledge.

And your right....

I dont care what they think and your right but I assumed that this is what the thread was basing who they find overrated or underrated off of which is why he was one of many artists I listed as being underrated.

No i'm not, I'm saying that his 'solo' stuff got a lot of media attention. What does Loretta Lynn and all those bands I mentioned have to do with The White Stripes? Nothing.

I wasn't talking about the group, I was talking about the side projects he did while he was still in the group, which is what you told me consisted of his 'solo' career earlier, make your mind up

Well now that I know you define being rated as winning truck loads of Grammys and nothing else, I see why you would think that.
But from media coverage and general Jack White ass kissery I would say you're a long way off because I have seen tons of it for both his band and his other projects.

Aren't the Grammys just about number of units sold?

LMAO

What is your point?

Your talk as if Jill Scott is Elvis Presly..... NONE of her albums are on the best selling albums list of all time and she doesnt sale millions and millions of albums.

She is NOT massively popular. LOL The biased on this forum is hilarious.

I guess everybody that has 1 grammy is massively popular.... I guess that makes Melanie Fiona massively popular.....LOL... watever

Janszoon 09-11-2012 02:06 PM

You know who's underrated? Pink Floyd. They only ever won one Grammy.

I doubt it, especially the year Jethro Tull beat Metallica's Black album for best metal album.

No, thats billboard.

The grammys are awards given by the music industry itself (producers, other artists, songwriters etc) they vote on who gets the grammy.
