Well, I can't think of any musicians I feel are too overrated, but for underrated I've always felt that Roy Wood fits that category. Really great songwriter, musician, and arranger. Also, no one will know who they are probably, but I really think Klaatu was a fantastic band.

I know the name because of the movie The Day the Earth Stood Still and the fact that Babes In Toyland does the same cover song that Klaatu did of the Carpenters.

Overrated: Coldplay, Kasabian, Arcade Fire (especially suburbs), Ed Sheeran, Two Door Cinema Club (and every other bubblegum indie pop band to come out in recent years), Adele, Explosions In The Sky (and most modern post rock bands which are just trying to be GY!BE with shorter songs)

I totally disagree with you on Arcade Fire.. their debut album is brilliant and Suburbs is superb as well.
