Anyway, Music was in a greatest time in 1990s when music was so diverse and everyone had their heart. 2000s (early and mid) had some good music which came from Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Pink, Mya, Blink 182, Sum 41, Ja Rule, Destiny's Child, Nsync, Backstreet Boys, Wyclef Jean, Gwen Stefani, Nelly, and others. That is when music had a good time.

"Lady Gaga Banter"

Just leave. Everyone here knows that you're just trying to press people's buttons (which you have failed to do... if anything we find your behavior slightly amusing).

I think the fact that every single artist you just mentioned sucks somewhat undermines your argument.

No. Lady GaGa just happens to be selling a lot of records at the moment because she makes something called 'POP' music I.E music that is popular (generally) at any given time and will probably be less talked about in a couple of years.

Just because an artist is selling tons of music at any given time doesn't automatically mean they are actually making music that appeals to hardcore music fans but more to the masses and by that it generally means people who listen to music for fun or even as a passing fancy. They generally don't buy lots of albums, have a favourite artist or even have opinions about different genres.

That's the nature of Pop music. Bands come and go but very few achieve longevity because someone else will come along next year and last years favourite flavour will be this years shit covered stick in the bargain bin at your local charity shop.

It is not really worth sweating over something that is hugely popular if you know it's crap. You won't change the minds of the blind masses out there so let them get on with it.

As for Bob Marley. Yes he was a sincere artist. Yes he was a decent songwriter but it was definitely right place at the right time. If you listen to his music it didn't actually evolve Reggae music like many of his generation and he is only revered highly because most people haven't bothered or have the inclination to delve into the Reggae scene and just presume he was the spokesperson for every artist making this sort of music.

Elvis. Bollocks. Cool as fuck - of course. Spokesman and musician for his generation- not a damn chance. Right place, right time.

Michael Jackson. No comment.

If you want to hear a musician and artist who truly is an icon then you should read up and listen to Fela Kuti.

Default Most over-rated album

Probably opening a can of worms here, but I think some classic albums require reassessment in the cold light of an almost new millenium.
Pour moi (a diehard Beatles fan, btw), Sergeant Pepper is the most over rated album ever.
There are at most, four songs which are decent-the rest (Lovely Rita, Within you, Fixing a Hole,When I`m 64 etc) are ordinary at best.
The album does capture the spirit of psychedelia, possibly the zitgheist of the age, but it`s no way the best Beatles album.
Revolver, Rubber Soul, With the Beatles and Abbey Road were all far superior.
Likewise Sticky Fingers by the Stones-two or three good tracks and then zilch.
Anyway-discuss....

Not again......... Sgt Peppers is a terrible album in terms of listenability and it only achieves it's longevity in terms of it's production.

I wasn`t aware it had been brought up here before-no threads of this title/type.
George Martin produced the sound effects/background/atmospherics the Beatles asked for.
But in all seriousness, how could the production influence the longevity of an album?
