On the D/L now. Why not give my LAMB compilation a go Crowquill? I know you are not big on Electronica, but you may well like them.
|
I'll give it a go and post what I think.
|
The track GABRIEL (last one) is worth anyone's time. It's one of the most beautiful songs I have heard both musically and lyrically.

Elliott Smith:
1) Waltz#2. Great production, but very repetitive. It does'nt seem to go anywhere. 2)Baby Britain. The arrangement reminds me of an English sensibility. Hooked me in a little. 3)Shooting Star. I like the guitars on this track. I would like to hear a change in tempo in his vocal delivery. This would break the track up a little. 4)Dancing On The Highway. Very hypnotic. Simplistic yet effective. The best so far. 5)Twilight. Once again the production is brilliant. So rich and textured. The keyboards drifting in really lift the song well. 6).All Cleaned Out. Does'nt do much for me at all. 7)Pitseleh. I love the rythmn of this song and the guitar licks. The piano has added another dimension. A great song. 8)True Love. I'm finding his vocal phrasing far too nice for this song, I can't hear the highs and lows. A little monotonous for me vocally. 9)Bye. Sounds like an interlude on a movie soundtrack. Not impressed. 10)King's Crossing. A glorious track. it builds and then drops. Just what I love in music. All in all, I like what he does, but I think vocally his range is limited. Not musically but emotionally. Compared to say JEFF BUCKLEY, his voice is monotone. I want him to tell me how he really feels . I will investigate more. |
Elliott Smith wasn't much of a singer, he's a voice you have to like he didn't have much range really. Theres a few live tracks where i've heard him cut loose (Yer Blues cover) but I don't think he could've pulled it off well with his own stuff. He knew his vocal limitations and did he best with it.

He is a great songwriter and thanks for the up, It's still so good to hear music that I would'nt usually be exposed to.
|
Do you want me to upload another compilation or suggest an album?
|
A Comp would be good again
|
It'll be up later tonight hopefully.

I've seen both live, Van nearly 20 times and ****er a handful, both go into intense spasms as they sing which are so natural and sincere that they almost make me weep. To see so much passion poured into the music is just fucking beautiful. |

If you listen to the entire catalog you'll see he demonstrates the ability to cover any sort of octave quite proficiently.

Million Dead
http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...illiondead.gif Million Dead were England's answer to At the Drive-In. Releasing two albums and a handful of EPs Million Dead had a short but prolific career breaking up in 2005 saying they'd "rather leave a good-looking corpse." Fronted by Frank Turner who idolizes Black Flag and was known for his intense vocal delivery going from melodic singing to something between rapping and screaming with bizarre political lyrical themes. Million Dead played post-hardcore ranging from a more soft style that can out of nowhere explode into a frenzy and sometimes was just a frenzy all the way through. Similar to Reuben, Hundred Reason and At the Drive-In. Members went onto form and play in Frank Turner, Pale Horse, Armed Response Unit and the Quiet Kill. 1. After the Rush Hour 2. I Gave My Eyes To Stevie Wonder 3. I'll Never Forget You (Husker Du Cover) 4. Smiling at Stranger on Trains 5. To Whom It May Concern 6. Harmony No Harmony hxxp://www.mediafire.com/?cndxmjtjzkm |
Public Enemy
http://digitalmedia.oreilly.com/imag...enemy_2002.jpg Unlike classic rock n roll, classic rap is generally over-looked by the younger audience. While you still get plenty of 13 year old's rushing to see roger waters live, or buy the latest led zeppelin box set, rarely will you find any who can tell you who chuck d is. Or who recognize flavor flav before being a reality star jackass. 1. By the time i get to arizona 2. Dont beleive the hype 3. Cant truss it 4.countdown to armeggedon 5. dont beleive the hype 6. shut em down. Not as many of the songs as I'd like to share, my external drive is ****ed up. All these songs are actually from only 2 albums I had on my computer. Though they are my 2 favorites. "It takes a nation of millions to hold us back" and "apocalypse 91 the enemy strikes black" "By the time i get to Arizona" is my favorite of theirs, if not my all time favorite rap song :) hxxp://www.mediafire.com/?3rkhb1knzjn |

Daniel Johnston
http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...eljohnston.jpg Daniel Johnston has always been an artist's artist though hes gained somewhat of a cult following over the years particularly due to the documentary the Devil and Daniel Johnston. He's been acclaimed by everyone from grunge musicians Kurt Cobain and Eddie Vedder to classic rocker David Bowie to indie veterans Sonic Youth, Beck, Yo La Tengo and the Flaming Lips and to current indie sensations Bright Eyes, Death Cab for Cutie and Okkervil River. Daniel Johnston's music could range from piano driven, to just an acoustic guitar to a full band (all instruments usually played by Johnston himself.) Johnston cited the Beatles, particularly Lennon as his biggest influences though they aren't apparent in his music. His lyrics were often childish to match his voice that at times could be painful but was always honest. 1. Devil Town 2. Mind Contorted 3. True Love Will Find You In the End 4. Love Will See You Through 5. Some Things Last a Long Time 6. Crazy Love 7. Lennon Song hxxp://www.mediafire.com/?2zmdzbsttb1 |
^Did he appear in an Okkervil River song, I can't remember which, but every time I hear it I swear it's his voice.
Daniel Johnston is definitely worth checking out. |
Yeah, Happy Hearts.
|
I knew it.
But that comp is a great variety of his stuff, especially the opener. Love Will See You Through is one of my favorite songs of his. |
I downloaded this comp. It did'nt blow me away. Singer/songwriters rarely do. I much prefer the piano based tracks. I would like to hear some more and maybe make a personal compilation.
