The best love song of all time is Richard Marx's Right Here Waiting.

This may sound weird (this isn't for personal gain...actually, it's for a story I'm writing, but whatever). Okay, here's my question. I want a love song that a guy LIKES. I'd like it to be danceable, but it's ok if it's not. Actually, any song a guy would listen to that's not anti-relationship. (aka: cheating, goodbyes, anything like that). I don't care if it's My Chemical Romance, Evanescence, Unknown (make sure I can get it off of frostwire), or even (eww-gulp) pop music. Anything will do (Even Rise Against or something will work). I'd also like (just for my curiosity) the most corny love song you've ever heard! Thank you!

Well I'm a guy and a Neo-Classical composer, however, some of you may have heard me playing keyboard backup for various modern groups from country to pop rock which I did in my younger days at a studio in California, but soon tired of dealing with all the buttmunches in the music business!

For a serious love song, I've always admired the one song of Richard Marx that he regarded as personal and never intended to be recorded until his friends begged him. He wrote the song while separated from his young wife by the Atlantic ocean while on tour. The opening line "Oceans apart..." is meant to be taken literally.

For a group that specializes in love songs, the classic group Air Supply hit the charts with one song after another. This group from Australia was a two man team and one of the singers has perhaps the most beautiful high register voice of any male singer in modern popular music. His vocal range overlaps a female alto and is quite extraordinary. Their songs are melodically rich and some of the best out there. The backup orchestration tends to be rather bland to my taste (senseless string overload common to modern pop music) but all in all this group is the best.

Now for a kick ass love song (or Ex-love) song Nancy Sinatra's These Boots Were Made for Walkin' basically describes the other side of love....when your man has walked out on you and needs a good whoopin'.

However, for suggestive lyrics the KISS anthem which has the line "I want to put my log in your fireplace" takes the cake. I suppose that qualifies as a love song too (or lust song).

So here you have it, the not so definitive "guy" answer to your query.

Yurshta.

PS Hear my music at musicofthegods.com if you like good instrumental music of a Neo-Classical bent.

''since ive been loving you'' - led zeppelin

evanescencesam 09-15-2007 03:25 PM

Oh, I'm an Evanescence freak. I have Origin, Fallen, Anywhere But Home, and The Open Door. Oh, and I have You, but I don't think that's originally on a CD, is it? Thanks so much, everybody. I'd love it if the answers keep coming.

evanescencesam 09-15-2007 03:28 PM

Oh, I forgot my name was evanescencesam...guess I made that obvious. I also love Rise Against (Swing Life Away is in my top 3 favorites from them- probably in my top 10 favorite songs in all). And I am paying attention! lol Sorry for the double post. I've had trouble getting them all downloaded and listened to. I just downloaded 35 H.I.M. songs and am still trying to decide which ones I like (so far it's about 3/15 that I do like alot). Wings of a Butterfly, Behind the Crimson Door, and Right Here In My Arms are grabbing my attention.

This song kills me...it's a personal thing. :(

So much so, that the slidey musical thingy at the intro, makes my stomach turn upside down with a heart sinking thud.
Not the kind of thing I'd buy (these songs that mark a moment in someone's life rarely are), but once this meant so much to me...now the the mear sound of it makes me ill. It's all in the words...

...and that's all I'm giving away.

evanescencesam 10-02-2007 02:19 PM

Wow. I nevr thought this post would get so big!!! Thanks to everybody! It's so hard to get all these songs, but my iPod has been expanded...alot. (Of course, I've been downloading Flyleaf, more Rise Against, Paramore, and... yeah, other stuff). Thanks to anybody that's helped! I'll work on listening to your song(s)!
bB
*EDIT* Oh yeah! I came out using 'Lovesong' by The Cure. I fell in love with it! I also love 'Entry Way Song' by Bright Eyes. I was playing it and my best friend sister looks at me and yells, "Will you turn the emo music off, already? I feel like slittng me wrists to this!" I was just like...okay. Not really, but okay. Then I put on Rise Against and she just looked at me. I put on Avril Lavigne and she was happy. Or at least not bugged. Anyway, the story's going good, and I have all your songs to thank for it!!! I can't write without music, and tons of these helped the process. But. Thank you. Very much.

This is my wife's and my song. I love TD and the piano at the start just kills me.

How bout some country from someone who has no business suggesting...

George Strait - Its your love...

You wanted cheesey you got it there!

Pfft, how bout half of the 80's Hair metal generation
Def Leppard -Love Bites
Tesla -Love Song
Bon Jovi -Always (or half their catalogue)
Extreme More Than Words

Chris Isaak - dont remember the title, but it was his flash in the pan
Sade/Deftones (my favorites version)- Ordinary Love

Does Let's Get It On count? lmao....

I got tons more, but start with those...

evanescencesam 10-11-2007 04:45 PM

Oh, thanks! I love cheesey and corny! I swear it makes the whole world go 'round, and without it we'd all croak. I've just found a new love of Atreyu, Inhale Exhale, Flyleaf, etc. "I can feel you all around me..." (that's "All Around Me" by Flyleaf, btw). Anyway, I'd love more, but I'm pretty sure the really good ones are almost gone!
