Christmas covers

I am making an alternative Christmas CD. As in alternative I mean fairly modern, like not Sinatra or Amy Grant or whatever.

Please direct me to modern covers, or even originals, from any genre that relate to christmas. I can only find a few on my own.

The Vandals did a lovely christmas album.

billyjerome 11-24-2007 12:30 AM

The Darkness - Christmas Time (Don't Let the Bells End)
John Lennon - Happy Christmas (always a classic)
Mike - All I Want for Christmas is a Girlfriend
Eagles - Please Come Home for Christmas
Dave Matthews Band - Christmas Song
Jimmy Buffett - Mele Kelikimaka
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Christmas All Over Again
Queen - Thank God it's Christmas
Big Star - Jesus Christ
Alabama - Christmas in Dixie
Elvis Presley - Blue Christmas
Paul McCartney - Wonderful Christmastime
Street Drum Corps - Happy Christmas (War is Over)
Wham! - Last Christmas
Lou Monte - Dominic the Italian Christmas Donkey

^^ That right there is a badass list. I can help find those if you need.

Even though you want fairly modern I'm going to recommend A Christmas Gift for You From Phil Spector. That is such a classic album.

Alternative X-Mas songs

Hey all,

Anybody got some good alternative x-mas songs? I'm not a fan of snowbells, sleighs, white wonderlands and all that overly happy stuff...

I'm thinking more along the lines of:

No Doubt - Oi to the World
New Found Glory - Ex-Miss
Blink 182 - Its Christmas Time

Anyone know of others with a similar style?

Kevorkian Logic 12-04-2007 06:19 PM

There's one by the Ramones if i'm thinking correctly. Don't quote me on this though.

"How To Make Gravy" by Paul Kelly is a Christmas song with a difference. It is about a person in jail who will be "inside" while their family is celebrating Christmas.

abscenceofsanity 05-02-2008 07:41 PM

The Barenaked Ladies - I saw three ships
I think its off an entire album of christmas songs.... Yep, "Barenaked for the Holidays"

Farfisa 05-02-2008 11:29 PM

Giant Drag did a pretty decent cover of Silver Bells.
