It wasn't my first Jazz but was my first fusion album. And I found it great right away. I'm not realy understanding what you mean about IDM and post rock, though.
Maybe I get you vaguely - like Bitches Brew and good IDM and post rock are all abstract music that flows really well despite the atypical/random structures of the music. but still, the three genres sound pretty significantly different to me

I think you got me exactly.

It's true that the three styles sound different but I think they're coming from a similar aesthetic place: abstract, no vocals, a sense of being somewhat freeform, etc. I find that similar moods tend to move me to want to listen to all three.

There's loads of jazz influence in post-rock and related genres.

Been digging some Dead lately, I love this album.

The Library Is On Fire - Magic Windows, Magic Nights (2010)

Great throwback band to the '90's indie rock scene. Short, faster, and to the point.

This is dad's idea of "Dad Rock". It was a random recommendation from my dad and so far I really like it.

I'd recommend Red Medicine though by Fugazi. Probably their most experimental album and my favourite as well

Pocahaunted - Island Diamonds

Had I known it was made with Bethany Cosentino and a friend of hers, I likely would've veered away from it considering how painful her music can normally be. But this is essentially four 8-minute dub-drone psychedelia tracks that invite you to lose your mind in them through molasses-paced beats/rhythms and echoing female cries. Certainly not something I'd advise listening to if you don't like repetition/monstrous layering, and not exactly something you'll like unless you're in the right frame of mind, but I've been in this 'slow, slithering introspective' state of mind lately and this album is a natural companion.
