Talulah Gosh - Steaming Train (1986)
A nice addictive little four-track E.P. from this short-lived English band. Solid indie-pop with catchy, witty female vocals and the energy and rush of punk rock. These songs would have fit very nicely on the C86 compilation.

I'll go for months without listening to this, then I'll whack it on one evening and fall in love with it all over again, melting under the warmth of these wistful, elegantly sombre melodies. One of my favourite Indie Pop albums ever, for sure.

This is a GREAT live video by the way.

As fascinating as the subgenre sounds, I've found the overall aesthetic gets old pretty quick. Alcest nailed it and everyone else sounds like they are ripping them off. So, I guess I want to ask...how does this compare?

My two cents... Jesu aren't as good as Alcest, and this is coming from a Justin Broadrick fan. BUT, they are decent, especially with the s/t, Conquerer and Ascension. Alcest also has more of a Black Metal sound, whereas Jesu are based on Drone and Ambient influences. It's also worth noting that Jesu started before Alcest, so they're not ripping them off. End of the day, they're both well worth the time.

Ah cool. You convinced me. I'll check them out.

Somewhat overlong with a fair amount of filler, but I can see myself trimming this down in places and loving it. Still one of the better releases of the year, and contains some of their best songs.

Quiet an epic piece of music. Normally I hate when metal bands go into heavy riffing/growling vocals to soft music/clean vocals, but these guys make it work. Truly one of my favorite albums of all time.
