Playing this obnoxiously loudly tonight. It's kind of... IDM before IDM was a thing. Just a fun collection of noises. Side note: how did artists sample music like this before the advent of programs like garage band or whatever? |

Three Colours : Red (soundtrack) - Zbigniew Preisner not so much new love as renewed love - the caviar of film music, easily (not that i like caviar much but having a hard time finding a metaphor) |

Really good Post-rock, all instrumental. All the basic elements, stringed instruments, loud drums, and a beautiful electric guitar tone. Highly recommend if you like something like Explosions in the Sky or Godspeed You! Black Emperor. (Richard D James Album) http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg I've always liked this album, but after revisiting it about a dozen times, I have to say it's my favorite by him. Perfection: |
Has anyone tackled this one yet? I've listened to the first CD and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Reminds me a bit of Swans. Love of Life, especially. |

Little Dragon - Ritual Union This didn't impress me all that much the first time around. The first time I listened to their debut, I was hooked to it. Machine Dreams took a couple listens, but I ended up loving it, too. For that reason alone, I kept giving this one chances. Damn am I glad I did. I haven't heard a grower like this for a long while. I just had that moment last night where it all clicked with me. Now my album of the year. |
I love Little Dragon and plan on buying their albums. Can't remember the song title but the collab with Gorillaz was great.

Peter Perret, having been very influenced by Lou Reed's thick, slurring style of singing, with the Only Ones released this pop/rock album with the catchy single "Another Girl Another Planet". I'm finding it completely removed from all that annoys me about Lou Reed and is very nice listening, and the guitar work of John Perry is very flamboyant and attention grabbing. |
^^The BBC Recordings are sessions they did for TV and radio
"Another Girl Another Planet" was oriiginally on "The Only Ones", their debut |

Definately one of the best I've heard all year. It's basically Post-Hardcore/Emo, but with really cool, story-like lyrics and the occasional really pretty quiet moment. One of my favourite aspects of this album is definately the production, the guitars and vocals are almost perfectly captured, crystal clear yet filled with power. The rythm section also sounds great, with a more prominent than average bass, and drums that reinforce everything the melodies are making you feel. I'm an especially big fan of songs like King Park(the highlight of the album, and the first song I heard by these guys) and I See Everything, where the lyrics are just so genuinely heartbreaking that it's hard to hate the songs. Anyways, great album. Check it out y'all. |
Yeah, Wildlife is easily one of my favorite albums of 2011. I've been generally pretty happy with all the post-hardcore stuff being made over the past couple of years.

Oxbow - Fuckfest For anybody interested in a Noise Rock/Avant-Garde Jazz hybrid, I recommend this caustic, evocative and ever-so-slightly schizophrenic release. |
Oxbow is amazing! My friend loaned me the "Music for Adults" DVD and it was great.... Eugene is an animal.

its about time you started listening to good music stu! :p:

You better hope I'm not your gift giver for Secret Santa, your enthusiasm would quickly dwindle.

So far, DJ Shadow has yet to disappoint, all his material I have heard has been nothing but pure sex to my ears. I started with Endtroducing of course, didn't know where to go from there, wanted something similar, what better than more Shadow! http://blog.funkygog.de/data/2006/11...tion-cover.jpg I have only positive things to say about this as well, aside from being just a bit different, more traditional song structure and less sampling, but still some great trip-hop. |

This album is simply not capable of aging. It's off in it's own little time and place which brings back nostalgic memories to the most aprehensive listeners. |

http://www.israbox.com/uploads/posts..._500front2.jpg Just got the Smashing Pumpkins reissues for Christmas. Attempting to be as unbiased as I possibly can...I have to say these are some of the best remasters I've heard from anyone. Especially Gish. The bonus discs are great - especially for a die hard Pumpkins fanatic like me. The DVDs are just what I needed, too. There has been a curious lack of officially released live material...especially from their classic era. The Gish concert is a little rough, but enjoyable. The Siamese Dream concert is the tits. I am happy. |

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Murder Ballads (1996) Not the best in his discography, but easily his darkest album and one of the most tortured sounding. Basically it has everything people like about Nick Cave, but he really does let himself go a little in the lyrics, especially on the song "O'Malley's Bar", just hear for yourself. |

Talk Talk - Laughing Stock (1991) Finally got around to listening to Laughing Stock and Spirit of Eden by Talk Talk. Laughing Stock stands out a little bit more to me. I love the sparse, ambient production on this album, slightly jazzy undertones and soulful vocals. It's such a beautiful-sounding album and seems to occupy a rare place in music along with Hex by Bark Psychosis. |

Only half through this yet, but every song has been brilliant so far. A better psych pop album than the Beatles ever wrote, in my opinion. Some of the loveliest chord changes I've ever heard from the 60s. |
