Just above average, intriguing post-punk album by a very well-read and sometimes misunderstood iconic personality, if you enjoy the acclaimed run of albums preceding this (the Idiot, Lust For Life, New Values) you could do alot worse. I really like Iggy Pop, shame his output hasn't been too consistent (to put it nicely) since this album
Bowie puts in an appearance, Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols is on bass. Sometimes the band is on fire, but it falls off in th second half somewhat. Fans only I'd say.
7/10

Iggy's best selling album apparently, and it's easy to hear why. Solid songwriting, undoubtedly billed as another 'return to his roots' at the time of release... I wouldn't call it that exactly (see: duet ballad with Kate Pierson of the B-52's), but many of the tracks are instantly memorable and a return to form; and you get some classic mid-tempo Iggy riffage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlzA0...eature=related
The artwork is so good that even were it a terrible album you'd feel obliged to force yourself to like it. Lyrically there is a loose concept to the album as well methinks
8.5/10

edit: a biopic entitled 'the Passenger', with Elijah Wood playing Iggy, is slated for 2010...

A good place to unwind is with some music from Jack Johnson. Soft, easy listening, pretty vocals, (male vocals) and cute socially orientated lyrics, bring back the 60'a or 70's in spirit. This type of song production is standing up through the ages. Here is Jack: Jack Johnson Song List | Tune List

X - Los Angeles (1980)

Using this to motivate me to get through the day and it isnt really working, still it is a firm favourite. A soundbyte summary might be something like 'the Doors meet the Ramones' ('soul kitchen' is covered) or something, i don't know. X were an unashamedly poppy alternative to other bands on the LA scene, this album is irresistable. They are no slouch on the lyrics either. kenny aka sweet_nothing linked me up with 'los Angeles' last year, so props and stuffff

best songs: 'The World's A Mess; It's In My Kiss', 'You're Phone's Off the Hook, But You're Not'

Posted this here at least once already. white-knuckle top ten business. became such a fixture i got the CD this summer, which was really pricey by today's standards as it happens. it's good for when you (i) am at a loss.
Some Joe Satriani-loving thing was talking to me today about this guitar virtuoso supergroup he likes called G3 and how amazing their live DVD was and how one of them plays a triple-necked guitar and... it just made me realize how rooted i am in the punk side of things, thats where it started for me,

^Great album, it surprises me each time I listen to it. You just have to see the album artwork to know how trippy this album is.
