Hop Along - Get Disowned Awesome indie-rock/folk-punk album from start to finish. Probably in my Top 15 of the year so far. |

^How much did you pay for the box set?

Twin Shadow - Confess (2012) Excuse the album art, and this is a great indie pop record. Complete with many a synth and catchy hook, this album may be one of the best I've heard this year. Each track holds its own, and it's accessible enough for any type of music fan to appreciate it. I reckon the scenesters will jump on this one fast. |

I almost didn't listen to that one just based on the artwork. I'm glad I got over it, because it really is good. |

A cult artist that gained a modicum of fame in the late 90's and is subject to a recent documentary of the same name even though the music is from 70/71. I am riding the bandwagon I admit but it's never too late to discover new names. If you like Bob Dylan then you would probably like Rodriguez's music although it's a lot more palatable than Dylans IMO. |
Swans - My Father Will Guide Me Up A Rope To The Sky
http://www.bigtakeover.com/images/10225.jpg I'm on the fence about whether this is a "true Swans" album or if Gira was using the Swans name to pimp his other stuff. Even if he was doing that, it's his prerogative and I don't really care. This is a great album and when I hear it I picture them playing it live, which I saw. Seeing them play this album live was an unforgettable experience. More memorable and probably more powerful than the album itself. No speakers or headphones can go loud enough to properly represent the band's actual intensity. Gira is a motherfucking monster. |

Greek Fire - If This Is The End (2012) A surprisingly wicked example of modern pop-rock done right: they've got the punch of Vertical Horizon, the atmosphere of early U2, and the swagger of guys like .fun. |
K. I'll try again.
I'm listening to The World Alive - Life Cycles. Its their 2nd album and its amazing. The music is really hardcore. Its like a mix of punk, metal, and scream with clear vocals and you can hear the lyrics even when they scream. |

Brutal Truth—Need to Control Recently I've been working my way through these guys' discography, and though all of it has been decent, this album was really a pleasant surprise. On the one hand, yes, it's classic, crazy, balls to the walls grindcore, but on the other hand it's so much more. For one thing, there are sizable dashes of thrash and noise rock in the mix. More important, though, are the details. At every turn this album seems to reinvent itself with unusual sound loops, odd percussion, horns, spoken word... hell they even throw in a didgeridoo at one point. Really, if you dig loud music, and you like it with a dollop of experimentalism, give this a listen. I just wish they'd continued in this direction on subsequent albums. |
Loved that album, might have to listen to it again, and some others in their discography.

http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/image...a9208110.L.jpg Blast from the past... thoroughly enjoyed listening to them after many years. |

Aesop Rock - Skelethon This could come under "Last album you bought..." but I am also "digging" it at the moment, so whadda ya know? Seriously getting closer to TMS and C4C for my Album of the Year. |

Rick Springfield - Living In Oz (1983) Although I've always thought Rick was fairly competent as far as power pop goes, Living In Oz was his first attempt at full blown AOR as well as a condemnation of the increasingly synth-dominated music industry...and it does what it does verrrrrrrry well. |

Man is the Bastard—Mancruel These guys are one of those bands that has hovered on fringes of my awareness for years and years so I finally decided to give them a listen. Pretty good stuff—experimental, punishing, droning, hardcore-based music that feels oddly jazzy to me. |

Dead Meadow - Dead Meadow So I've been really excited that a new Tame Impala album is coming out soon. Innerspeaker was one of those albums that I actually couldn't wait to listen to. It's rare these days that I anticipate a new album so much since I have so much easily accessible new stuff that it occupies my time. Even so, I can't wait for it and it's been putting me in the mood for the all the really good psychedelic music is coming out right now. Black Mountain, Moon Duo, the Psychic Ills...all stuff worthy of checking out. Dark Meadows is the perfect example of a band that may help me wait out the bit of time I have left for the new Tame Impala. Sabbath-inspired riffs abound, so if sludgy fuzzed out psychedelic music sounds like something you'd be into, I really recommend these guys. |

Now... for this monster. http://cdn.stereogum.com/files/2012/...se-608x608.jpg Ty Segall Band, Slaughterhouse. This... I don't even know. It's giving me strong vibes of The Stooges, Black Sabbath, The Kinks, Black Flag. Mostly short, to the point, noisy jangly heavy songs of madness and perfection. Every instrument (vocals included) are so covered in distortion that it's just this mass wall of noise, even on their least heavy songs. You can barely understand a word that Ty Segall sings, partially because of the distortion, partially because he's simply screaming himself hoarse. The album includes an insane Bo Diddley cover and a ten-minute-plus noise piece. Here's my favorite song off the album. I could listen to it all day, but don't because there's just more of the album to hear. This is one of those few albums that I consider perfect. It is quickly becoming a favorite of mine, not just in recent releases, but of all time. Listen to it. Right now. |

If just for this track alone: |

Deep, dreamy darkwave with some EBM influences. I get lost in the sound so easily. |

Lost militant afro-centric funk/jazz/soul gem from the 70's. Rugged stuff right here. |

It may be a bit premature as so far I've only listened through the album once entirely but I'm loving the hell out of this (I keep getting stuck on certain tracks). Really interesting world music/jazz fusion heavy with inventive jam-session percussion. Can't find any album-version links of this one but it's still gorgeous. |

I've been listening to this tonight and loving it: http://www.musicperk.com/wp-content/...e_Pieces_3.jpg Old school. I love old school and I've been looking for some new artist with a old soul flavor. This is kinda perfect for that right now. |

Not exactly an album as its a greatest hits collection but still great to have all of their old hits in one place. Pretty good listen! |

Listening to this one at the moment; can't believe how powerful a singer she still is at 64! Brilliant album, shows she still has it. Helped out by Dave Stewart and even featuring the return of Lindsey!
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...yourdreams.jpg Three fantastic standouts: "Soldier's angel" (duet with Lindsey), "Moonlight (a Vampire's dream) and the amazing "Italian summer" --- I literally cried. |

Madlib - Madvillainy Instrumentals About time I listened to this. Had it on my hard drive for years. |
It's nice to see spammers who are honest.

Right now, this one. First studio Genesis album I ever heard. Got it for my birthday; one of the first albums I ever got. Was a little upset that the version of "Dance on a volcano" ended differently to what I had heard on "Seconds out", but hey, I was just a stupid kid!
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...px-Trick76.jpg Love this album! I know it inside out, can sing it word-for-word (extremely badly) and know all the music. One of the better post-Gabriel albums, where Collins was still keeping to the prog ideal, and Steve Hackett, a sad loss one album later, was still around. Not a single bad track on it, though I used to have less love for "Robbery, assault and battery" than I do now: still my least favourite on the album though. Favourite? Probably "Ripples". Or "Squonk", the first real Genesis track I ever heard via "SO" (apart from "Follow you follow me" of course). Also love "Mad man moon", "Entangled", "Dance on a volcano". And the title track of course. Plus it has a really cool cover... |
