You're right about the absolute ton of character there is in the music / vocals / lyrics... they were a really tightly knit unit that really knew how to play to their strengths and make an album great. They never really released anything substandard in their entire career.

Amen to that. Along with the Celibate Rifles, the Triffids and the Church, they're probably my favourite product of that whole garage rock scene in Australia in the late 70s/early 80s (although I'm not really 100% sure the Church were from that same scene though). Agreed on how they have literally no bad albums as well - one or two of them don't interest me so much, but otherwise even the last album they ever recorded is worth having. Bit of a shame how Garrett pulled the plug and went on to make a mockery of everything the Oils stood for in politics, but I guess all good things come to an end eh.

As for what I'm digging today...

My new favourite Dylan album (although I'll probably start saying Time Out Of Mind again this time tomorrow). Among the first bona fide country rock albums, and definitely among the best too (I Threw It All Away ). If only it weren't so bloody short.

Serious 'album of the year' material. One listen in and I'm more mesmerized than I ever was by 'Choirs of the Eye'.

I love what goes on in this album. I listened to it in 2 halves and it's brilliant. The vocal work is tremendous.

I'm still kinda mad with Garrett over that... while i can't deny anyone the right to get older and shift their values, it's so hard to watch and read about him working for the Government he once vehemently fought against on so many pressing, concerning issues... I know that sometimes he sincerely must not believe what his party spits out, and sometimes it's hard to watch your childhood / teenage hero toe the party line. Perhaps he has a bigger picture / scheme / idea in mind? Perhaps he now wants to try to change everything from the inside - i'll admit that with my disappointment comes some sort of faith in him still... he seems to sincere a man to just sell out for power.

Sigh - Imaginary Sonicscape

Never have I been so impressed on a first listen for a black metal album. I have Anteater to thank for this beauty. Cheers!

Cool. Hope you're at least a fan of abstract electronic music. If not, maybe it'll make you one?

I enjoy Merzbow and Basinski. Does that count?
