You did man! Check out Black Breath, Dragged Into Sunlight, Pallbearer, Converge, and High on Fire. They all came out with releases this year I thought were great.

Green Carnation - Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness (2001)
My dive into the more experimental/progressive side of metal over the past couple of days has unearthed some impressive stuff. This album in particular really stands out to me. The whole album is just one single epic 60-minute piece that throws riff after riff at you, some string sections, haunting female vocals and even some saxophone. Despite its ambition it never feels dragged-out at any point and is remarkably well-executed.

Agree. Amazing band but you do have to pick the right time to listen to their albums as you can't just dive in. You have to listen their albums in their entirety and finding the time is difficult.

I actually like that Pallbearer album, but it didn't make my top 25 list. I'll have to check out that other stuff...I have actually heard good things about the Converge album but I have yet to listen to it.

There were quite a few good metal albums that came out this year from what I remember. Let me know if you want recommendations. I'm not sure what kinds of metal you like.
