If you like Mogwai, then the obvious band for you to listen to is Slint (primarily Spiderland).

I have heard a lot about SLINT. I think I will have to check them out.

Oh yes you should. Slint's Spiderland is my favorite album. Another Louisville band with a similar vibe is Rodan whose sole album Rusty is rather good.

Are you talking down tempo as in the genre, or like trip-hop (DJ Shadow, Portishead)?

Frewen 01-12-2008 04:18 AM

^That confused me too: for instance Back in Communist Russia... were a great band and their music could be described as down-tempo, but certainly not in the manner of most trip-hop bands.

flightlessthoughts 01-17-2008 09:45 AM

secondhand serenade is pretty depressing and "down tempo" (I guess...down tempo is a pretty subjective phrase)

mjmanus2006 01-18-2008 08:45 PM

okay sorry I haven't replied but I've been busy. Anyways, a better way to describe what I'm looking for is deppressing/angry "Trip-Top". It would be even better if it had some guitar in it too, but anyways, I hope that helps tell you what I'm looking for. Thanks.

Ah, Low.

The Great Destroyer is a really great album.

mjmanus2006 01-18-2008 09:49 PM

By what abnd is "The Great Destroyer"?

Frewen 01-19-2008 07:21 AM

^The band's name is Low. I'd say The Great Destroyer is the easiest album for any rock fan to get into, but my personal favourite is Long Division. If you like them, check out Codeine or Red House Painters.

Try Straylight Run, The Thrills maybe.
