The Beatles songs, "Julia," and "In My Life," are two of my favorite love songs because of their wisdom and sweetness, which I feel are captured in the lyrics and melodies. I especially like "Julia," which John Lennon apparently wrote for his mother, because this song tries to show that love, so vast and yet personal, cannot be contained in the words themselves. "Julia" gives me shivers and causes an emotional response every time I hear it.

I can't remember if I've posted this before, but it's lovely anyway:

What a voice!

^^^

It is a fantastic song. Stays on the right side of longing without being mawkish.

I'd never heard this song of Tracy's, though I used to listen to her a lot back in college. It is lovely, nonsubmissivewife.

Jackhammer, since your thread is in the pop section I didn't actually give my favourite love song in my previous post, but here it is: "Annie's Song," by John Denver. I love the simplicity of the song and the beauty of the poetry he uses...the many similes comparing his feelings of love to the feelings he has when in nature. Of course, he and Annie eventually got divorced...(sigh)...but it sounds like they were happy while their relationship lasted.

If You Could Touch Her At All - Willie Nelson

09 If You Could Touch Her At All.m4a

Funny a woman can come on so wild and free
Yet insist I don't watch her undress or watch her watch me
And stand by my bed and shiver as if she were cold
Just to lie down beside me and touch me as if I were gold

One night of love can't make up for six nights alone
But I'd rather have one than none Lord cause I'm flesh and bone
And sometimes it seems that she ain't worth the trouble at all
But she could be worth the world if somehow you can touch her at all

Right or wrong a woman can own any man
She can take him inside her and hold his soul in her hand
Then leave him as weak and weary as a newborn child
Fighting to get his first breath and open his eyes

One night of love can't make up for six nights alone
But I'd rather have one than none Lord cause I'm flesh and bone
And sometimes it seems that she ain't worth the trouble at all
But she could be worth the world if somehow you can touch her at all

This song gives me chills. Marry me Willie!

I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song - Jim Croce

One of mine would have to be, 'Ive been loving you too long (To stop now)'....or....'Just one more day' - Otis Redding.

Great, great pick there...I adore that song.

^ I love that song too. Have you heard Cat Power's cover? I think she does it really well.

I still prefer the original though.
