You don't understand my argument at all.
The Residents didn't do what they couldn't do. I feel The Stooges didn't understand their limitations, or rather they just didn't give a sh*t, and they weren't even trying to experiment or diversify their sound or anything. No band should be so sloppy at trying to play music that simple. They make The Sex Pistols sound like Iron Maiden. I kinda dig Down on the Street and 1970 but the rest of Fun House just grates the hell out of me. And I think they go way beyond their limits when they try to "jam" like on Dirt and the title track. And then there's LA Blues, good god. Talk about one of the most overrated albums of all time. Raw Power is a lot better, but I wouldn't call that one a masterpiece either. |
The Residents are the exception to every rule and theory ever created regarding contemporary artistic expression. Saying anything else about them would be an injustice, which is also the reason why I never post anything about them.

The Residents never imposed limits, the word was meaningless to them. They pretty much made up their own rules. The Stooges were too inspired to do that. Respect a band on their output regardless of what you "feel" are successes and failures . . . not on their capabilities based on some half-****ed set of standards. |

I don't like their music and I think they're hideously overrated, and I was only explaining why that is. I'm not trying to pass off my opinions as an objective list of quality standards. |

And Bleach still sucks. |
Now it's personal.
