I never quite got this album, but I know a lot of people love it. Granted, they have a unique sound, but I find it a chore to listen to. "no evil" or whatever it's called is the only song I can sort of dig.Help me out.

I don't rate it much either so you are not alone.

I quite like Television, great musicians, Marquee Moon is brilliant.

I try not to think of them as a punk band so much as The Grateful Dead meets Velvet Underground.

they are proto-punk. i think the album is a tad overrated but its still damn good.

Yeah, Television are pretty overrated. See No Evil was the only track that really grew on me. As long as you don't think of them as punk like some people here have said, it'll be fine (too complex and technical really to be punk).

Speaking of overrated: Talk Talk, "Laughing Stock". I know the experimentalism mafia is going to burn down my house for saying that, but I don't care. Their tracks are just way too spacey and delicate for me, I prefer post-rock to have some more punch behind it like Don Caballero or Faraquet (thanks for all the recommendations by the way).

nice name. i dunno if laughing stock has quite clicked with me yet. but i do have a pseudo memory of me listening to it and liking it a bunch. since then, not so much. i think you need to be in a mood for that album.

Yeah, a lot of post-rock is like that for me - music you have to be in the mood to listen to. What moods do Slint or Mogwai represent though? I want to listen to those all the time:)

And as for what mood I'd have to be in to listen to Tortoise, I don't know. I have Millions Now Living Will Never Die, and it was painfully slow and boring. I mean, instrumentals are good but you have to have some pretty interesting music to compensate for the lack of vocals, like Don Caballero (Damon Che is REALLY GREAT DRUMMER!) but Tortoise is as sedate as its name. I need an explanation.

i agree slint and mogwai are probably my 2 favorite post rockers. but i dont really have a vast knowledge of the genre either.

I never got the big deal over Slint.
