Elliott Smith- Coming up Roses

You keep having everyone listen to Eliot Smith. His music is mediocre at best. Are you his manager or something?? Is this all you listen to? We have all heard this guy now. Please stop shoving him down our throats.

First of all Elliott Smith is NOT mediocre he is AMAZING!(I think crowquill, lizzie, and coming up roses can back me up on that) Second I wouldn't be a good manager considering he's dead.

How is his music mediocre? Perhaps you should back up your opinion. Coming Up Roses is a pretty terrible example of his work since lo-fi folk really only covers his first two albums and part of his third but calling it mediocre just shows you're pretty ignorant of that genre of music and wouldn't have liked it in the first place. Listen to this and tell me he's "mediocre at best." Elliott Smith is easily one of the most talented musicians of our era.

how is coming up roses terrible?

sleepy jack 03-07-2008 05:34 PM

I said terrible example of his work because it represents a very small portion of his career and it isn't even the best of off his self-titled. The Biggest Lie, St. Ides Heaven, etc all better.

Needle in the hay was the track that got me interested in his music.

That's relevant how? It's still not as good as St Ides. Heaven, Alphabet Town or the Biggest Lie. Just because a million people heard it in the Royal Tenenbaums doesn't make it one of his best songs.

XO is Elliott Smith's greatest album.

Jesus! Can't I have my own damn opinoin instead of having to argue with someone?

I was agreeing with you and then you went and tried to shove words in my mouth about me saying Coming Up Roses was terrible which wasn't what I said at all I just said it wasn't his best song and only represented a small portion of his music. Don't treat it like you're being attacked here, you weren't.

Maybe it was the way I read it or how you phrased it. I got the feeling you were calling me a poser because you thought I heard needle in the hay on the Royal Tenenbaums(which i didn't i heard it on the radio).
