The Music Recommendation Thread

Alright, so rather than start another useless "hey can you recommend me some bands with such and such characteristics" thread, I thought I would try creating one general purpose thread in which people could ask for recommendations based either on certain qualities they're looking for or just based on their tastes and some favorite bands and let other people use their own discretion.

So, I'll start it off:

I'm looking for some really epic music that isn't metal or progressive nor too wanky, I'm thinking something like The Resident's God In Three Persons or one of Dirty Projectors' concept albums. Basically something really ambitious and conceptual but in a digestible format.

Feel free to recommend artists, albums, or ask for some suggestions yourself.

This is a really good thread. I hope someone makes it a sticky. Anyway, I can't help ya much CA. I have no idea what either of those bands are :(.

Also, can anyone reccomend something along the lines of Opeth, but a little less depressing. Something really hardcore to get pumped up with, but with a nhillistic kinda emotionless feel to it. I'm in one of those "f*ck it I'm done caring" moods.

Cardboard :

Godflesh-Love and Hate In Dub (Dark electronic dreamscapes)
Future Sound Of London-Accelerator (Early edgey techno/ambient)
Mass-Labour Of Love ( Post Punk experimental)
The Orb-Adventures Beyond The Underworld (ambient space electronica doubla album)
Tangerine Dream-Phaedra (early classic kraut electronica)

That's a few albums I have and they arent exactly conceptual but they are a little different to the usual and you may like them.

Godflesh have a dub album? hmmm... i'm intrigued. you've sent me that mass album, and it is quite good.

I will dig out the Godflesh. It is not what you expect. I have a feeling you will really like it.

If anyone wants to help me....

I am looking for (don't laugh) Shiny Toy Guns meets The Sounds meets Alanis Morissette. If anyone could be so kind?

You could try Farmakon's debut album (A Warm Glimpse). That album while a blatant ripoff of the Opeth sound has a much more lively and fun mood.
