HELP! New music needed

Alright, I'm looking for some new music that is still in the same area as my current stuff. I'm mostly into alt music, bands I'm into right now are:

The fray
Linkin Park
Fort minor
Matchbox 20
One republic

I don't mind a bit of simple plan or easy rap everyone once n a while.

You guys know any songs or bands that you think I'd might like, let me know!

Thanks!!

Turn on your radio, you'll hear tons of the crap you'll like then.

Hi, this thread was posted for people to post to help me, if you don't feel the need to help me out, then don't post. I mean, that was the intention behind this thread, was it not?

jackhammer 04-06-2008 06:01 PM

I think he means that the bands you have mentioned are bands you hear on the radio everyday and certainly are not classed as alternative music.

I was helping you out. The bands you listen to are formulaic and there's tons of bands doing the same things as them. All of which can be found on the radio.

sweet_nothing 04-06-2008 09:42 PM

but you could of done it in a nicer way

sleepy jack 04-06-2008 09:45 PM

I'm really not going to waste my time being polite to someone who has no attention of contributing to the forums.

Sweet is right, you are completely correct, but could approach it in a nicer way.

sweet_nothing 04-06-2008 10:12 PM

you could kill em with kindness ;)

Rainard Jalen 04-06-2008 10:53 PM

lozoz, you two are too nice. C'mon dudes.

The Fray, Linkin Park, Matchbox 20, One Republic... calling any of those "Alternative Music" is, well, pretty much...BLASPHEMY! Unforgivable. And there's no nice to respond to that, other than a suggestion to switch to your nearest adult alternative radio station.

The best I can do is: listen to Keane and the Thirteen Senses.

I like how I can be a complete prick to everyone on this site and no one says a word but when I'm a prick to somebody who has no intentions of contributing or even staying I get called rude.

What, you mean because he doesn't listen to pretentious prog rubbish or extreme metal?

How about a serious reply?

If you want some laid back Rap try De La Soul or the Fugees.
The other bands are difficult 'cos, well, i don't like them. Try...

Radiohead
Brendan Benson
Eels
Modest Mouse
Beck

Mostly all american and can have quite anthemic songs, which was a trend in the bands you put down...

RRRRRrrrright. You clearly did not read his post.

He asked for bands like Linkin Park, you give him De La Soul and the Fugees. Huh?

He asked for bands like The Fray. You give him: Radiohead (??), Modest Mouse, Beck. Are you out of your mind?

Keane and Thirteen Senses is more like it. Actually I'll do you one better. Try out either: Denver Harbor, Moses Mayfield, Cary Brothers, Augustana, Third Eye Blind, Making April

And hmm, you'd probably like Coldplay too.

Piss Me Off 04-07-2008 10:30 AM

The bands you recommended are crap though.
If you read the post he said he liked laid back rap sometimes, therefore the De la.

Radiohead and Modest Mouse write anthemic pop songs much like The Fray do, so theres something catchy he would like there, expect they stretch out into different genres, thus expanding his taste.
Beck meanwhile just writes catchy songs, and can also be put into the laid back rap bit, kinda-ish.

So whats your problem?

Ah, you're talking about Bends Radiohead. As for Modest Mouse they got nothing in common with Fray at all! And those bands I recommended might be "crap", as you put it. But they're just as good as The Fray and probably marginally better. So they're all legitimate referrals.

Piss Me Off 04-07-2008 10:37 AM

No point giving him tit for tat.
There's pop songs on OK Computer as well.
I think anyone who likes The Fray has a chance with liking Dashboard and Float On.

That's two songs. "We Were Dead Before The Ship Sank" and Modest Mouse on the whole are WAY WAY too indie and non-mainstream-poppy to suit the tastes he set forth.

Piss Me Off 04-07-2008 10:56 AM

I agree with Modest Mouse on the whole, i wouldn't give him Moon and Antartica yet, but the last 2 have tons of hooks on them. Just because its 'non-mainstream-pop' doesn't mean he won't like it because its pop in the first place.

I don't think he's coming back anyway, Crow probably scared him off.

I agree that you can call it pop (albeit indie pop) but the elements involved are definitely far too audacious, quirky and edgy to satisfy a fan of mainstream generic adult alternative radio pop/rock. Do you not agree?

jackhammer 04-07-2008 01:43 PM

I would doubt it if he comes back so I'm closing this already as the bickering is boring to read. If he comes back I will re-open for him (if he so wishes).
