Who is the best artist right now?

I really want to know who people feel is the best new artist around RIGHT NOW. Nothing earlier.

chartsengrafs 04-08-2008 02:10 PM

as in, best band who just debuted? in that case, i'll go with grand archives

jacklovezhimself 04-08-2008 02:14 PM

yeah recently debuted and in recently i mean in like 1-2 years.

chartsengrafs 04-08-2008 02:16 PM

well, in that case, i change my answer to band of horses.

sleepy jack 04-08-2008 02:34 PM

Band of Horses debuted back in 05. Anyway my favorite bands of 08 are probably Grand Archives, She & Him, Fleet Foxes and A Weather.

chartsengrafs 04-08-2008 02:39 PM

their debut lp came out in 06. i didn't even know that ep existed till just now. fuckin douche.

adidasss 04-08-2008 04:38 PM

Yeasayer are pretty good...Justice, Simian Mobile Disco....um...that's about it I think...*fail*

I thought you were all about Black Kids and Vampire Weekend?

adidasss 04-08-2008 04:46 PM

Um, Vampire Weekend maybe, but the Black kids? Not so much. I'll wait for the album to make a final decision though...:|

sleepy jack 04-08-2008 04:47 PM

There was an article in SPIN about all these new hype bands it was coupled with an interview with Vampire Weekend I can scan it if anyone wants.

Rainard Jalen 04-08-2008 04:49 PM

Dodos are the best band to debut in 2008 by a walk.

adidasss 04-08-2008 04:51 PM

You're fucking kidding...I thought it was right up there with Atlas sound in sheer snoozefest...I'll give it another go tho...*incredulous*

simplephysics 04-08-2008 04:53 PM

Maybe not the best but I certainly like them.
Margot & The Nuclear So & So's.
Potential I indeed hear.

Comus 04-08-2008 04:55 PM

Citay.

pheurton 04-08-2008 05:16 PM

heh fleet foxes, grand archives, why?, Elf Power.

It's way better than Atlas Sound. It's full of great melodies and the acoustic/rhythmic elements I find really interesting. And it's pretty great considering the whole thing was done purely from an acoustic guitar/drums set up. Actually I would have thought you might quite like it :)

adidasss 04-09-2008 03:07 AM

I gave it another listen and admit that I exaggerated a bit. It does have some good tunes, but overall it didn't catch my attention. It's like Tilly and the wall only without the crazy fun and catchyness...:\

15Steps 04-09-2008 07:20 AM

anybody give a listen to Ex Blood brothers' Johnny Whitney's new band?

They only have like 3 songs up on their myspace but dang, they sound great.

dietcoke 04-09-2008 09:12 AM

Margot & The Nuclear So & So's .. I agree.

Piss Me Off 04-09-2008 09:20 AM

I'm enjoying Holy **** a lot at the mo, i think they're pretty recent.

infusician 04-09-2008 03:58 PM

Daughtry - the guy has talent. I can't say the same for all of the other American Idol ex-contestants.

holy **** are awesome

jacklovezhimself 04-09-2008 06:21 PM

I would definitely say Wires On Fire. (says my friend Jesus although his real name is fantasia and he steals hubcaps) (he is very imaginary).

spark10036 04-10-2008 09:58 AM

I will go with Arctic Monkeys...good clean fun
two albums, not a single mistake
not everybodys cup of tea but their success can't be accidental

...anw, wouldn't be a post for best active musical artist right now more interasting?

The Music Forums > General Music > Who is the best artist right now?

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-10-2008 12:01 PM

I mean people can mention earlier musicians like lets say Robert Plant who are still active in recording, not just new artists.

Their remix of Radiohead's Nude is very nice.

Molecules 04-10-2008 02:03 PM

I ****ing love the Silents and Henry's Phonograph, but then I am rooted in psychedelic and post-punk popcraft. The former have just released their debut in Oz and are signed to the rather excellent Ivy League records. And no I don't work for them.

Otherwise Durrty Goodz from the UK. To be honest the only music 'scene' I follow rabidly is grime, but there's a general consensus that Goodz has and will far surpass that.

ghropi 04-10-2008 02:50 PM

I don't like much that's come out recently, but I do like Paramore and Flyleaf..

Actually, I really like Ghillie Dhou (there's a song available on myspace.com/mypollux)... it's French, but she does a pretty good cover of Black Hold Sun

good point. you know what? go crazy. new rules best active artists right now. not including rolling stones.

spark10036 04-10-2008 05:03 PM

ok then...
I will choose Steven Wilson
He is just amazing!
A great singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist active with six bands:
No-Man
I.E.M
Bass Communion
Blackfield
Continuum
and off course Porcupine Tree
a real artist

sweet_nothing 04-10-2008 05:04 PM
