A Blast From The Past
 

I appreciate that the sites general demographic is under 30 but there are a few of us over 30, who maybe listen to a lot of music that has nostalgic value or has just been generally forgotten. Like finding a dusty old vinyl in the attic, what have you been delving into retrospectively speaking and renewing your love for?

Sure after 1985 most of their output was patchy but damn it I have been listening to For Those About To Rock and Dirty Deeds and I forgot just how good they were. Primal rock N roll at it's best.

Inject The Venom. That guitar solo that kicks in just after the 2 minute mark. The simple but effective production.


Rocker. What more can I say? It does what it says on the tin.

A band that never has settled into any particular niche, yet they have produced some of the catchiest three minute tracks ever. A mish mash of pop, punk, new wave,disco, rap and even cod reggae has not dented my admiration for the band and Deborah Harry is still a sex bomb and oozes charisma.


Detroit 442. An early sub punk classic that you probably have'nt heard.

This LP has been on my turntable for a week now,
To Late for Tears is killer.

Could this also be used as a "songs that remind you of the past" thread? If so, I have a few. If not, I could make one if there isn't one.

Probably the biggest blasts from my past were getting Tubeway Army - Replicas which was probably the first album I got into at about age 12, and getting back all of the Pink Floyd that I collected through my teens.

Gad when you get to a certain age, nearly anything you listen to is apt to trigger a wave of nostalgic memory. I also have a nicely maintained used record store near my house that I visit pretty often and I'm always finding stuff I used to listen to that still sounds great and brings back lots of good feelings.

Lately...
10CC - Along with Supertramp, one of the great 70's pop bands.
Dream Syndicate - Lots of good memories of my own teen/alt/punk years triggered by listening to these guys again.
Black Uhuru - An old favorite and just a great band, especially those first two Island records.
And today I got the remastered Eraserhead soundtrack. Can't wait to listen to it. Both the movie and this record had such a huge influence on me and are tied to many good memories. If it wasn't for David Lynch, I may have never discovered my love for Fats Waller. Ahhhh, memories....

It never occurred to me to look for a soundtrack album for Eraserhead. I'm intrigued.

Soundtracks from Dirty Dancing, Grease & Saturday Night Fever... still listen to them regularly.

Jefferson Starship - Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now was a favorite back then.
Johnny Hates Jazz - Pretty much most of their stuff.
Pet Shop Boys - Again most of their albums.

Some bands I tune into often are Genesis, Mike & The Mechanics, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles and especially Fleetwood Mac (one of my favorite bands).
