Want to Impress Your Friends? Or have them think you're a total loser?
Here it is...
100. ISAN "Plans Drawn in Pencil" http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...wninpencil.jpg Wow I just found out these guys remixed Ef who are one of my favorite post-rock bands. Awesome anyway it's ambient and minimalistic music with nice melodies, I encourage it for chilling. Favorite Song: Corundum MySpace.com - isan - - Electronica / Ambient / Indie - www.myspace.com/isanmusic 99. Black Eyes and Neckties "Stiletto" http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/stiletto.gif Fast paced horror punk with catchy riffs and choruses they're a pretty addictive band even if they're nothing special. Favorite Song: Back from the Dead MySpace.com - Black Eyes & Neckties - BELLINGHAM, US - Rock / Glam / Rock - www.myspace.com/blackeyesandneckties 98. I, Robot "Et Cetera" http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/etcetera.jpg Kind of typical screamo but the screamer is so awesome and Welcome the Plague Year-esque it doesn't matter. Favorite Song: Now I Owe You a Favor MySpace.com - I Robot - BROOKLYN, NEW YORK - Hardcore / Emo / Indie - www.myspace.com/irobot 97. We All Have Hooks for Hands "The Pretender" http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...epretender.jpg Shouty, fun, loose yet very cohesive. It's We All Have Hooks For Hands probably one of the most why aren't they famous bands ever? They took chamber pop and threw in a variety of influences and came out with a sound total unique. Favorite Song: Hold On C'Mon |
In reality people are never impressed when you name-check obscure bands, they just think you're a massive loser.
I'll give these a listen... |

Edit: Don't let me do smileys then I liked Isan, reminded me of Mogwai for some reason despite being very little like it. Black Eyes and Neck Ties are cool too despite not being the kind of thing i normally listen to, must be the name. |
You're going to love I, Robot I can feel it. :)

This thread delivers so far I've never listened any of these(including I, Robot!)

96. Talkdemonic "Beat Romantic"
http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...atromantic.jpg I don't really know how to describe this band, they kind of have this similar vibe to some of those stringed post-rock groups like Belle Orchestre but at the same time have this acoustic guitar with beats Sans Arc thing going on. Just listen. Favorite Song: Bering MySpace.com - talkdemonic - Portland, Oregon - www.myspace.com/talkdemonicmusicmaking 95. Get Him Eat Him "Arms Down" http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/armsdown.jpg Fun and nice guys who have such a great ear for pop. This is probably what early Hellogoodbye would've sounded like if they were more masculine, but only slightly more masculine. I love how the synthesizers sound just because they're so oddly and uniquely used. This band also sounds like a better and more unique version of some trendy indie-pop band I really can't think of. Favorite Song: Push and Pull MySpace.com - Get Him Eat Him - PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island - Indie / Powerpop / New Wave - www.myspace.com/gethimeathim 94. Joy Wants Eternity "You Who Pretend to Sleep" http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...endtosleep.jpg I hate doing this with post-rock bands I really do but everyones heard of Explosions in the Sky and they embody so many post-rock features its hard not to compare every band to them. Joy Wants Eternity are post-rock in the ways of Explosions in the Sky and they have this brilliant way of keeping your attention throughout their album which many post-rock bands seem to be unable to do. Favorite Song: From Embrace To Embrace MySpace.com - joy wants eternity - SEATTLE, WASHINGTON - Experimental / Indie / Ambient - www.myspace.com/joywantseternity 93. Boom Bip "Seed to Sun" http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a.../seedtosun.jpg The hip hop Boards of Canada, that's right. I said the hip hop Boards of Electronica. Favorite Song: Pulse All Over MySpace.com - boom bip - Echo Park, California - Electro / Alternative / IDM - www.myspace.com/boombip |
+10 counter-culture *** points for me having various boom bip/dose one releases.

I'm loving We All Have Hooks for Hands, though I'm partial to the song "The Man Trying to Outfox us All". I haven't had a chance to check out the last four yet...

92. Belaire "Exploding, Impacting"
http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...gimpacting.jpg Members of Fancy Feast, Voxtrot, and Arkay. The gentleness of Maria Taylor combined with the dancieness of danceness? Yes. They describe themselves as prog synth-pop. Favorite Song: You Really Got Me Goin' MySpace.com - Belaire - AUSTIN, Texas - Indie / Electro / Pop - www.myspace.com/belaire 91. Lullatone "Little Songs About Raindrops" http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...traindrops.jpg Japanese electronic/indie-pop due describe themselves as "Pajama pop" I don't know how accurate it is, but they have a very cutesy sound that can be oddly creepy. Favorite Song: Leaves Falling MySpace.com - Lullatone - Nagoya, Aichi - Indie / Pop - www.myspace.com/lullatone 90. Califone "Roots & Crowns" http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...sandcrowns.jpg A genius blend of modern electronic music with electric guitars blended very well roots music. Kind of reminds me of My Morning Jacket except better and much more creative. Favorite Song: The Eye You Lost in the Crusade MySpace.com - califone - CHICAGO, IL / LOS ANGELES, CA - Blues / Experimental / Folk - www.myspace.com/califonemusic 89. Trainwreck "Trainwreck" http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...trainwreck.jpg It's like His Hero is Gone if they decided they were a European Screamo band, much love people. I don't know whether to call them hardcore influenced emo or emo influenced hardcore. Favorite Song: MySpace.com - TRAINWRECK - DE - Hardcore / Punk / Healing & EasyListening - www.myspace.com/trainwreck5 |
Califone is great. You're safe diving into most of their output, but I'll also recommend Quicksand/Cradlesnakes.

91.Black Bear "The Cinnamon Phase"
http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...namonphase.jpg Very fun and upbeat electronic act, I'm kind of tired so my definitions are going to suck if their isn't too much history behind the act. Favorite Song: Flicker Wings MySpace.com - Black Bear - Shoreditch, London - Indie / Rock / Electro - www.myspace.com/blackbear 90. Fruit Bats "Mouthfuls" http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a.../mouthfuls.jpg Eric Johnson of the Shins side project and funnily enough they sound a lot like the Shins. They're not as good but after playing what Shins album I had to death in 2006 this was a very welcome album because it was new. Favorite Song: Rainbow Sign MySpace.com - Fruit Bats - Visual / Bluegrass - www.myspace.com/thefruitbats 89. Zion I "Mind Over Matter" http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...overmatter.jpg I don't know what to say other than this is just a really solid album. Good production, beats and everything. It's pretty immediate also but doesn't get tiring. Favorite Song: Critical MySpace.com - ZION-I - THE CITY OF DOPE, California - Hip Hop / Rap / Alternative - www.myspace.com/zioni 88. Electric President "Electric President" http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...cpresident.jpg Nice soft electronica in the way of the Postal Service but with acoustic guitars too. Favorite Song: Good Morning, Hypocrite MySpace.com - Electric President - Indie - www.myspace.com/morrelectric |
