I'm not sure if you could really get a sense of someone's personality from what they listen to. Day to day behaviors and mannerisms don't seem like they'd be the kind of thing that a strictly aural exposure could change, unless of course the sound were to cause an extreme change in environment. That is to say a constant high pitched screeching may cause someone discomfort and they'd be prone to show it. Though I'm not sure if the same could be said if they were choosing to listen to it as a means of entertainment as they'd not be prone to showing discomfort from it.

Combine this with the fact that the average person chooses what they listen to based on how they feel as opposed to choose how they feel based on what they listen to and you've got a situation where it'd be hard to study the direct correlation of preferred sound and behavior.

It is an interesting thought however.

All my friends listen to NU/Emo Stuff...its just a vicious circle.
One of them will find out about this 'kewl' band and the rest just blindly follow and listen to it.(other than me ofcourse)
And when it comes to doing stuff other than music, they are all cool and fine.
The only personality of theirs which is annoying in my opinion is the way they just ignore me when i try to introduce them to better music.(or in their words, different music cuz NU/Emo stuff is the best according to them)

Other than this, the only other type of ppl i know are the ones who listen to a lot of metal and having a totally different personality which doesn't even relate to metal.
But that doesn't means that sh!theads don't exist.
They do exist, but you don't find them often.(or at least i don't)

I'm not so sure about that.
Personally I don't see a huge difference in imagination between listening to a 30 year old classic rock band to listening to a 20 year old alt/indie band

Like The Unfan i think its incredibly hard to determine a correlation between personality and music taste, you'll always get all sorts of people with an ecclectic taste who are completely different to each other.
That said there are always stereotypes, of which i know a few. I have metal-head friends who are usually outgoing and prone to showing off, indie friends who are shy and arty, and mates who listen to Aphex Twin-like stuff who are enormous geeks. To say that this is always the case though is silly.

Well I don't know about personality, but I find that my taste in guys changes a bit when my taste in music changes/shifts, in regards to the style or attitude associated with the music I'm digging at that point. This is only a somewhat recent development though.

What type of man do you date when you're listening to Cpt. Beefheart?

I think the correlation has more to do with how you approach music than the actual bands you listen to.
