Most Overplayed Songs of All Time

What are they?

Mine:
-Don't Stop Believing - Journey - Its not THAT great, and Journey had quite a few better songs

-Wonderwall - Oasis - same

-Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen - Wayne's World made this song into a joke and completely ruined it. It was such a complex and beautiful song, and now people hear it and laugh and think that its a funny song. I want to kill Wayne's World

Piss Me Off 05-24-2008 08:36 AM

Queen - Don't Stop Me Now

It is EVERYWHERE.

WaspStar 05-24-2008 09:21 AM

Anything that's on the radio today qualifies. If all you listened to was the radio, you'd think that the Stones never did anything besides Satisfaction and Get Off Of My Cloud, you'd think that Midnight Train To Georgia was the only song Gladys Knight & The Pips ever recorded, etc.

Oh please.

I love that song. But don't tell me its not meant to be somewhat humorous. I mean c'mon, LISTEN TO IT.

Son of JayJamJah 05-24-2008 10:45 AM

Nirvana_man 05-24-2008 11:00 AM

Anything by U2, you would think they would put more songs from the Joshua tree album, instead they put their crappy songs likes Vertigo 25 times a day.

Back in the 90's I had habit of listen to some music on the radio, these days all I hear are the same people on the radio (Bon Jovi, U2, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Shania Twain, Mariah Carey etc...) uhhhh, how sad, they give airtime to billionaires while the good and lesser knowns have to fight just to have one song from them aired

NSW 05-24-2008 12:14 PM

"Wind Beneath my Wings" Bette Midler
"From this Moment" Shania Twain

It could be because I just don't care for those songs, but they seem to be played at every wedding and every love song radio request around.

Alfred 05-24-2008 12:19 PM

Smells Like Teen Spirit for sure.

tkpb938 05-24-2008 12:21 PM

Hey, there Delilah

Most annoying song ever when its blaring in your ear from a crappy intercom speaker thing on top of a lifeguard tower every day of the summer...

:banghead:

Though I love Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix and a lot of radio friendly artists I know that some people hate these artists because of their overexposure. But I don't listen to the radio often enough that overplaying of music I like ruins it for me. It is however an issue when its something I hate.

If its a modern rock/pop station or adult contemporary, chances are its overplayed.

All I ever listen to on the radio nowadays aside from the local jazz and classical stations are the classic rock stations and this one hard rock station.

Some "classic" rock songs I hate that are unfortunately radio staples.

American Band - Grand Funk Railroad... Not a good one unfortunately.
Journey - Seperate Ways... I can tollerate Journeys other songs, just not this one.
Eddie Money - Two Tickets to Paradise... Barf.
Styx - Blue Collar Man... I actually like some Styx, but this song is horrible on many levels.
The Guess Who - American Woman... Not as bad as the Lenny Kravitz cover though.
Asia - The Heat of the Moment... Some of the greatest prog musicians of the 70s unite to create... THIS?
Foreigner - ANYTHING BY THEM

sl1ck 05-24-2008 06:37 PM

Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd. That song torments me.

Cougar90 05-25-2008 12:06 PM

simplephysics 05-25-2008 12:29 PM

Hmm, I hear Chapagne Supernova alot more that Wonderwall.

..I feel like The Piano Man follows me everywhere I go.

Farfisa 05-25-2008 12:29 PM

Umm...people have neglected to mention every Linkin Park song...I'm so sick of fucking hearing Shadow of Today...it's a horrible song that doesn't need to be played every 15 minutes..it's just ridiculous.

GravitySlips 05-25-2008 01:22 PM

anything by Jack Johnson

my friend constantly plays his music, I never liked it much to begin with but now have an inferno of absolute hatred burning within me anytime I hear Jack Johnson. I don't really listen to the radio or watch music stations, so it's mainly stuff my friends overplay that bother me if at all.

NoseClams 05-25-2008 11:47 PM

yeah, any nickelback song is overplayed because they suck. I think 'rock star' is rediculously overplayed, but the music video is pretty good.

boo boo 05-26-2008 04:40 AM

You know instead of just picking out certain bands, this is the best way of putting it.

Anything thats post grunge, pop punk or nu metal.

jackhammer 05-26-2008 01:44 PM

I Will Always Love you by whitney Houston is right up there. It also happens to be most hated song of all time. I have to leave the room, or at the very least cover my ears when that pile of excrement is playing. It is the absolute nadir in all that's bad about commercial middle of the road banal crap.

rammetal7 08-22-2010 01:45 PM

Bodies By Drowning Pool

you can not escape this song!

SaintSwan 08-22-2010 02:15 PM

Smooth by Santana and Rob Thomas.

I loved that song when it first came out but holy crap did it ever get the crap played out of it. Still gets played a ton.

Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus. One of those songs that you think is decent enough the first few times you hear it, on the fourth time you're singing along, the fifth time you're changing stations and every other time after that you're jabbing the button and swearing at the radio for playing something that ****ty.

And every Abba song was overplayed the first time it was put on the radio.

it's still overplayed on my hit radio station.

WHY MUST THE SCHOOL PLAY HIT RADIO OVER THE PA SYSTEM?
it's not the music I hate (It's not my thing), but it's the amount of times they play the same song.

our city needs a freeform radio station or at least a college radio station. We're all sheep here. we're not even open to new non-musical ideas like Solar power or hydroelectricity.

RVCA 08-22-2010 04:30 PM

Beethoven's fifth is SO overplayed

The Bullet 08-22-2010 10:07 PM

Use Somebody by Kings of Leon might just be the most overplayed song ever.

glastonelle 08-22-2010 11:30 PM

Bon Jovi - Livin On A Prayer

No matter what radio station or iPod, you'll always find that one absolute tosser who requests Bon Jovi.

FML.

ImSeeYou 08-23-2010 04:21 AM

Has got to be...

The Macerena,
LOL, even though it's the most overplayed song of all time I still don't know who sang (aborted) it?

No jokes right, but every Saturday night, EVERY SINGLE SATURDAY NIGHT, at around 11:00 pm you can hear my neighbor singing karaoke with his mates and 'ALWAYS' by 'Bon Jovi' ALWAYS comes up. Picture a bunch of young Chinese dudes singing their lungs out to this song and it's so funny cause the only english word they can actually sing in the song is 'Always', so they all hit this word/note at the same time.
It's hilarious

jasminoodle 01-06-2012 07:16 AM

Here come. The girls

Ben Butler 01-06-2012 08:12 AM

Mariah Carey - All I want for Christmas. You would think they would have something different by now.

You mean the first movement? And even then most people are probably only familiar with the opening. I think the Ode to Joy theme of the 9th is overrated.

Thom Yorke 01-06-2012 10:42 AM

Hotel California is the first song that came to mind.

remember a few years ago there was that song by a band called The Fray, and it was entitled 'How to save a life'

Remember how it hasn't stopped playing since.. and it's ****.

My Nan had died a few days previously and that song brought me to tears on the most lifeless night out I have ever been on.

Thankfully I just went home rather than breaking down in public.

TheNiceGuy 01-06-2012 03:41 PM

Creep by Radiohead is pretty overplayed. I do enjoy this song but it being constantly played over and over again tends to make it lose it's feel.

^ Yeah, some songs are so banal and repetative that you only have to hear them once and you feel like you`ve heard them a thousand times.
Each time I have to endure Black-Eyed Peas`"I got a feeling", I get to hear the inane line, "Tonight`s gonna be a good night" a coma-inducing twenty-four times. In fact, as the line yields up all it`s subtleties the first time you hear it, the other twenty-three times are pretty redundant.
