Tell why you like your favorite genre...

Sorry if this has been made before. I did a search and nothing came up with description and all that, but if it's too similar to something else, remove/merge/whatever you want.

Anyways, my favorite genre is pop-punk.

I like it because of the catchy melodies, the still energetic tempo, and the less serious vocals/lyrics. I got into pop-punk, because I often used to play skateboarding video games, or watch skateboard videos, and since they have a lot of skate punk/pop-punk, I kinda started listening to that music, and still love it to this day. I also enjoy skate rock/skate punk, its very close, more energetic cousin.

Favorite bands:
MxPx
Lagwagon
Descendents
Millencolin

Songs:
What We Hate - Screeching Weasel
I'm Ok, You're Ok - MxPx
May 16 - Lagwagon
Nothing With You - Descendents

Though some of the bands do skate punk as well.

LoFi and Alternative/Acoustic stuff is really what I listen to most. It just is easy to connect with and seems more personal than alot of other musical styles. To me, if you can make amazing music with just a guitar.. you are god.

Elliott ftw.

I enjoy every genre because that way I'll never get sick of it. :thumb:

I haven't got a fave genre, so i'll just write about one (it might be a 'style', i don't really give a fudge) i like a lot at the mo...

Noise Rock!

I think my attraction to this is two-fold:
1. I like loud stuff.
2. I like to be challenged by music, often i find i like a band a lot more if they've had to grow on me.
In a way the influence has always been with me a little bit, even when i was listening to NME bands i was still heavily into Sonic Youth, i just never went out of my way to find any similar bands really.
SY being an example, Noise rock doesn't always have to be enormously loud, other themes that are often associated with it are a disregard for normal song structure and experimentation with all sorts of instruments. I like to think of it as Punk for those who get bored easily.
I'm still pretty new to it all really, i couldn't rattle off any names that are that obscure but here are a few acts that i like who can be classed as noise rock.

Sonic Youth
Melt Banana
Lightning Bolt
Big Black
Velvet Underground
Boredoms
Fuck Buttons
Mclusky
Health

5 good songs:
Lightning Bolt - Megaghost
Big Black - Kerosene
Melt Banana - Shield for Your Eyes, A Beast In The Well Of Your Hand
The Velvet Underground - Sister Ray
Mclusky - Lightsabre Cocksucking Blues

My favorite genre is post metal, which includes:

Isis
Neurosis
Pelican
Rosetta
Russian Circles
etc. etc. etc.

I really like it because of the heavy climaxes and I find the music to have a lot of soul in it. I also find that the bass lines can be really funky sometimes so while it is influenced by post-rock there is a funk feel to it. I find this in Rosetta.

BTW Panopticon is like one of the greatest albums ever.

Progressive(rock/metal), post rock/metal and experimental/instrumental/avant garde stuff.
Mainly because there are soooo many different/weird sounds which i just love and I've made it a habit to always listen to the instruments and not pay too much attention to lyrics on first listen.(trying to change this though...hard to get out of it :p: Certainly, one thing the indie/alternative section helps me in from this site)
