This is a quote from one of my earlier posts,

"Now it doesn't have to be malsteem material, but I think the 100 greatest guitar songs should involve a little talent and expertise in them. And I find neither in this song"

That's your misrepresentation. That's why I said read my posts.

I have nothing against simple songs, I just think their are too many incredible guitar songs that aren't included on this list. I mean where's Satriani? Vai? Eric Johnson?

So you're after songs that are full of technicality , but not memorable in the slightest

I'm sorry I said anything. It looks like you are just to dense to figure it out

Stairway, Purple Haze & Smoke on the H2o should share the No.1 spot! :-)

I think a good example of a technically advanced, yet memorable song is Dream Theater's Under a Glass Moon, one of the best guitar solos ever

Cliffs of Dover is pretty memorable. My dad would insist on playing it for his trips to Calais :s

It's only memorable to Dream Theater fans.

Look at that list , it's got some of the most well known songs ever written no Dream Theater song could compare to any of them. Most people wouldn't know a Dream Theater tune if it bit them on the arse.

Popularity arguments are kinda pointless and don't go anywhere.

You gotta remember this is Rolling Stone, they know jack sh*t about guitar and they're insanely biased towards their musical preferences when making these lists. Just liking a song is all they need to call it a great guitar song.

Btw. I'm currently making a rock guitarists list for my blog. I made one a long time ago but it was pretty horrible.

Urban Hat€monger ? 06-18-2008 09:37 AM

This list is clearly popularity orientated , otherwise wouldn't it be full of songs with 10 minute long guitar solos?

I should take a shot at making my own alternative list. List making is a fun little hobby.
