I'm just looking for indie/alternative music that isn't as strange and WTF as stuff like flaming lips because that would just put her off entirely lol

Alright. Here's what I've been listening to:

some Zappa. I'm uninitated so I don't really know where to start with him. But I like.

Ween's "White Pepper" album

Steely Dan "Can't Buy a Thrill"

Miles Davis, "Bithes Brew"

genre isn't important as talented, uncompromising musicians who deliver the goods....

Best album by Mike Patton (in any of his bands) to start with? I'm loving Loathesome Pete's beginners comp he put together

Also, what are some good Zappa albums to start with after Hot Rats, which is the only one I own?

for Patton I have to say Faith No More, "Angel Dust". The song "Land of Sunshine" will be stuck in your head for a week I think. However, Mr. Bungle "California" is my favorite. Save Fantomas and Tomahawk for the last so you have an open mind.

Beethoven's 5th symhony

Egmont overture

William tell overture

there you go, realy epic pieces with an explosive ending that would fit a great battle/bomb exploding.

I think im a downy becuase i dont rember the name of the song or band. but the lyrics are like...

"Iv been locked inside this house, in security, iv been dieing to get out, while you hold that key... Iv been trying to get out," blah blah blah

It's got to have fairly long stretches with no words (just music or beat or something) so we can use it under dialogue. It's gotta be serious, and it's gotta be gritty. I'm thinking something actually about prison or getting busted or something. Something about how much it sucks to be prison. Not "boo yah, bein' a gangsta rules", but more "damn, i miss my kids and my girl" sorta stuff. Gettin' it?

Bluesy, soulful is good. Cheery bad.

Thanks much.

Get Peeping Tom's self-titled album. It's seriously one of the best dark pop albums I've heard since Doolittle by Pixies

If someone could help, I'm looking for worthwhile grindcore/crust similar to:

Blood (ger)
Assuck
Repulsion

Please do not give me recommendations if you aren't familiar with at least two of the above.
