I don't think they're trying to prove anything. A lot of indie fans are also into hip-hop so it just kind of makes sense to include it in with indie reviews.

This. It's a conspiracy maaaaan, it's mainstream music's back-up plan to catch the kids who want to actually explore and be different. Punk, Reggae, rap, hip-hop- it's all been eaten by the opiate culture, by which I mean they have been dumbed down, striped of meaning, and made popular. I don't really think it's a conspiracy, maybe were just sick of conflict. =/ I sure would rather listen to Lady GaGa, myself, then some political song, maybe if it was a really good quality political song...

yes, but all those sites just have regurgitated music lists. I swear, everything from Stereogum to SPIN.com, all the music sites basically listen to the same albums. I would love to see just one list that doesn't have Girls as one of their Top 10 albums, or that didn't list Animal Collective as number one. Not saying I'm not a fan, it would just be nice to see someone do something different.

yeah I'm not sure what he was getting at but rap has its own indie out there. If thats whats being included. Sites like pitchfork don't get by on music so much as they get by on counterculture.

There is bound to be some common ground not only on sites that cater to the same crowds, but also clear winners across all genres. We don't have to like them all.

I really don't see why people get worked up over an indie rock site... they're gonna make some questionable decisions. That's why they're popular, because they appeal to a certain crowd. Get used to it. It's the same reason why Alternative Press (the magazine) appeals to 14 year old scene kids. Not everyone can have the holy, infallible opinions that you do Norg. And if you ask me, Pitchfork gets it right a lot more often than any of the other popular media sources do.

Thanks for reminding Ghostly did a Top 100. I'd say theirs is (imo) the best list from any media site I've seen yet. The label has some fantastic releases by the way, they should have just given a big middle finger to modesty and put Alpinisms on their list :D
