First things first; I hate all of the bands you mentioned. However, if you ignore the "rock" tag, they're far less annoying. Really, the "rock" label is hopelessly overused (and more importantly, misused). "Blood On The Tracks" is an amazing album, but it's not rock. Critics who call it a rock album annoy me, but that has no effect on the music itself.

I mean, people call Steely Dan "soft rock," but come on...it's great music, but not "rock."

Yeah, "rock" is applied to everything these days, but then again, I feel like at least 90% of any thriving genres these days derive from rock and roll.

The thing is, after 50 years nobody can really define what exactly "rock" is.

Hey!! Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac were awesome. You need to specify that for the greenhorns. Elo's album Time is a masterpiece. Boston's first album is great, everything else they did sucked. Foreigner had one good song (Blue Morning Blue Day) Styx had 3 good songs. Journey...yeah, they sucked. Although Wings had plenty of suckage songs they had quite a few good ones.

I agree completely that all those bands suck...although unfortunately I have been known to enjoy "Mr. Bluesky" and "Do Ya" by ELO...because Im a faggot.

E.L.O are a Pop band. I would never lump them in with 'soft rock' personally. The first album had elements of rock but they never tagged themselves as a rock band. Agreed about the first Fleetwood Mac album too. A great Blues Rock album.

I was focusing more on the general suckage of the music rather than the genre.

And early Fleetwood Mac is blues rock not AOR so it doesn't apply here

my bad, either way jackson was still on a decline. the 'dangerous' album only scored one major #1 hit stateside. he wasn't anywhere near the indomitable force he was in the early 80s.

actually after checking the net as opposed to relying on memory ousting 'bad' would have been a greater feat than topping 'dangerous'.
