Well, you're already taking pot-shots at Bonzo, so we'll just see.

It would be awesome to see this completed rather quickly...your last 100 took how many years?

Punk was a good thing ... at first.

Take a bunch of art school drop outs who can hardly play and get them ranting about the establishment , and then when you get bored of doing that move on and do something else. Anyone who was actually creative in the punk scene got bored of it after a couple of years and it died just as quickly as it started.

But not in America

Somewhere along the line America took all the originality out of punk and have been flogging this dead horse since about 1982. A few bands got it and actually did something original. Most didn't. Somehow the 'DIY ethic' went from meaning 'do something orginal' to 'release your ****ty 3 chord thrash on some obscure record label you started yourself and call anyone making more money than you a fake '. And there's the rules that seem to have added to it. Which I find extremely funny considering punk was supposed to be about anarchy & nihilism. Endless bleating on about 'selling out' even though the Pistols openly admitted they were in it for the money. As soon as you added a 4th chord these idiots would whinge & bleat about it. And don't even get me started on straight edge , one of the dumbest things ever to be associated with any genre of music , let alone one that is SUPPOSED to be offensive & dangerous.
And then there's skateboards. What the fuck have skateboards got to do with anything? Skatepunk? Give me a fucking break why not have space-hopper punk while you're at it.

Thank you America for taking all the fun out of something that should have died decades ago.

Well we did invent it. I guess we have the right to take all the fun out if it if we want. :p:

94 : POST 2000 BRITISH ROCK

Bloc Party , Maxïmo Park, The Futureheads , The Rakes , The Fratellis , The Cribs , The Kooks , The Editors , The Automatic , The Wombats , Maccabees , Pigeon Detectives. The list goes on and on and on. and they're all crap. They all look the same , most of them sound the same. Some hybred of The Smiths , The Jam and a bit of energy left over from punk. It seems thats all you need to get a record deal in the UK right now. The days of diversity in what was once a proud music tradition has all but vanished. Thank you MTV & NME for ruining the last vestiges of good music that was relatively mainstream and easily accessable.

I don't hate classic rock. I'd be a hypocrite if I said I did. How can I when I listen to bands like Sabbath , Aerosmith , Alice Cooper , Deep Purple and others on a regular basis.

However

There are a certain bunch of people who seem to think music died in 1990s. That nothing since can even touch what was around in the 70s. The sort of people who consider Guns & Roses and Nirvana the last 'good bands' to come out.

I mean how depressing must it be if you are a fan of music and your list of favourite albums looks like this

1. Pet Sounds
2. Sgt Pepper
3. Dark Side Of The Moon
4. IV
5. Tommy

I mean by all means enjoy those albums if you do but just bear in mind that if you can't even bring yourself to call an album that has sold less than 10 million copies one of your favourites then i'm not going to take you seriously.

The same sort of people who moan all todays music sucks and complain about there being nothing good on the radio or TV but don't bother looking anywhere else.
The sort of people who deride hip-hop because it doesn't have 'real musicians'
The sort of people who hate electronica because 'there's no emotion in pushing buttons'

Basically people who have buried their head in the sand who clutch their copies of Led Zeppelin II close to their chests complaining that music isn't as good as it was back then.

I'm in my 30s , so is Jackhammer , so is R-T we're always looking for new things to enjoy. I might be more cynical and harder to impress than when I was when I was 20/21 but the enthusiasm is there. There's just no excuse for not making any effort to look if you consider yourself a fan of music.

I'm in my 30s too and I totally hear you on this point. Also, I feel like I run into a lot of people who think the "alternative" explosion of the early to mid 90s was some high watermark in rock history and those people piss me off as much as the classic rock snobs.
