Eh, not so much. An objective opinion simply aligns with established facts..

yeah when you think about being objective in its purest form, it is a bit of an oxymoron.

But in terms of things being relative and the stripping away of biases, then the least restrictive outlook is the new definition of objective.

I'm just saying if you can go from listening to Underoath to Otis Redding, and everything inbetween then I trust your ear. I trust it because it can pick up on what each genre's stong and weak points are.

For example I cannot espouse the virtues of hockey, soccer, or baseball. Because I dont expose myself to their world to be able to critique it on anything more than the most basic attributes. Football, Basketball, and Martial arts are a completely diff story though :)

And yes this is all just a debate. I thought that was the point of the thread. I mean I said in 'my opinion' and 'by my preference' several times. Hell me and my best friend cant agree on stuff when it comes to music (as my pallet is much more diverse than his, but he isnt really a music lover anyway)

wouldn't the definitions in themselves be subjective of those who define them? the standardization of someone's subjective opinion on what criteria to include and what to omit would not remove the fact that a living person made choices based on some sort of belief, whether knowingly or not.

The definitions can be subjective. By putting them forward you can objectivly judge the music based on criteria.

This is like the whole vetting the vetters thing. If you agree that item X will be considered valued and then define how the rankings will go, you can do it. Its more about making it known how results were achieved and not declaring things to be the best song ever by secret workings behind the scenes.

No, not possible. Period. Sorry.

You don't say anything after 'period'. That's the whole point in saying it. Period.
