The Chillout Thread

Maybe certain tracks will crossover but what tracks truly chill you out? Just post them with or without official videos (my first choice was never a single).

Critique is not even important here. Just a track or two that takes you away from this godforsaken world of ours.

First entry. Jose Padilla-"Blues For Ibiza" from the album 'Souvenir '. Sublime Balearic chill with some great original guitar work:

Akira 09-26-2008 05:27 PM

The whole of the Bladerunner soundtrack by Vangelis.

jackhammer 09-26-2008 05:29 PM

'Wait For Me' is beautiful. Good call sir.

jackhammer 09-26-2008 05:30 PM

Moved to 'General'. Music should soothe as well as ignite.

Akira 09-26-2008 05:31 PM

Once I put the album on I always end up leaving it all on.

Perfect to listen to in bed and drift off to.

Not really that keen on the movie but the score is brilliant.

jackhammer 09-26-2008 05:37 PM

The movie has been a favourite of mine for years TBH. Have you ever heard Tangerine Dream?

This track is from the 'Risky Business' ST starring Tom Cruise way back. It is actually an extension on a theme from the film 'Thief' which is an early Michael Mann film (Heat, Manhunter, Ali etc).

FaSho 09-26-2008 05:40 PM

anything by the avett brothers is great

"Paranoia In B Flat Major"
>

jackhammer 09-26-2008 05:42 PM

Expect this bugger to go on for a while yet.

Solaris (remake). Cliff Martinez S/T. Amazing.

Akira 09-26-2008 05:47 PM

From The Truman Show (very underrated score)

This is Truman Sleeps by the great Philip Glass

really? do you not like the genre too much or just the song?

jackhammer 09-26-2008 05:49 PM

Glass's soundtracks for the 'Qatsi' trilogy are subliminal. That had some nice touches too.

Akira 09-26-2008 05:52 PM

Aye. Pruit Igoe is my favourite by Glass. Was a bit gutted it is now on the GTA 4 soundtrack, though at least younger people will hear it.....yeah right, like they will have The Journey on their radio.

FaSho 09-26-2008 05:57 PM

ehh they have more laid-back songs...but they dont have youtube videos "salina" is probably their most chill

jackhammer 09-26-2008 06:03 PM

Get into Reggae now ;)

jackhammer 09-26-2008 06:09 PM

Pram—Track of the Cat
All I could find is this live version, but it's pretty close to the version I know and love.

jackhammer 09-27-2008 04:03 AM

I like that. I have not heard that before. Has a 60's soundtrack vibe.

Pram are a great band, especially on the album that track is from.

simplephysics 09-27-2008 12:45 PM

Alot of songs do it for me, here's a couple.
St Vincent - Landmines

The Concretes - Contamination

jackhammer 09-27-2008 12:49 PM

Love the horn work in the second one. Both cool tracks.

Yea, I don't think I've ever heard a song by The Concretes that I didn't enjoy.

I should have known The Concretes. I have their self titled release from 2003, and I still want that St. Vincent release ;)

jackhammer 09-27-2008 01:50 PM

^^^

I have fixed your youtube vids. You need to remove this part: www.youtube.com= and just include the code (letters and numbers) within the youtube tags.

WaspStar 09-27-2008 05:41 PM

Probably the most un-Roses like track the Stone Roses released during their heyday, and it's one of the most relaxing, magical, beautiful, "chillout" songs I've heard.

RockGuitar101 09-28-2008 12:17 AM

Ok. don't care for it much, I guess it's ok for other people. So I won't comment more.

insinkerator 09-28-2008 10:12 AM

I find that famous song from the soundtrack to the mission really relaxing...

other than that norah jones...

and a band called the waiting room... look 'em up

Demonoid 09-28-2008 12:20 PM

Just something a bit different, that's chillout, yet very creepy -

Bohren & der Club of Gore. Funeral/Doomy Jazz.(WARNING: Shouldn't be in a very attentive mood while listening to this...Midnight/Loneliness recommended)
Well, guess what? Zombies are rising from the graves and there's literally no life on earth. Yet, the air around is very calm and quiet.
Would suit an horror movie where there's no voice involved.(where pictures do all the talking)

YouTube - bohren & der club of gore - constant fear
YouTube - Bohren & der Club of Gore - Midnight Black Earth
YouTube - Bohren & der Club of Gore - Prowler
YouTube - Bohren & der Club of Gore - On Demon Wings (The Big Sleep)
YouTube - Bohren & der Club of Gore-Crimson Ways

PS: Nice thread...loving all the stuff so far :D

jackhammer 09-28-2008 01:05 PM

Kruder & Dorfmeister's remix of Lamb's Transfatty Acid (check out that change of pace around 4:20) both the Original track and the remix album from K & D are stellar:

Well, you should really get Black Earth or Sunset Mission...Their most consistent material imo. Haven't given any of their earlier stuff a listen yet though.

SubPop 10-01-2008 11:34 PM

The Kruder and Dorfmister qft.
I love all of their stuff
Tosca Suzuki is great album as well

Demonoid 10-02-2008 03:39 AM

Well, checking out more of Kruder and Dorfmister, they really are great. Good stuff!

Anyways, I'd like to add Global Communication as well.
76 14 is just an awesome album. Just a sneak peak :p:
14 31
The song is 14 minutes 31 seconds long(duh) but parts of it have been cut off due to the 10 minute youtube restriction. The rest of the album is equally good, if not better.

Edit: Just another i managed to find.
5 23
I don't know whether it was used there or not, but anyways, the music is there :D
