Hmm...guilty pleasures...

1.Jennette McCurdy- So Close
She actually can sing, I was really surprised
2. DaVinci's Notebook- Secret Asian Man
It's stupid, and cheesy but so enjoyable
3. Say Anything- Alive With The Glory Of Love
Yes it's generic pop-punk, but it's so catchy
4. Barry Louis Polisar- All I Want Is You
It's a cute children song.
5. Taylor Swift- The Way I Loved You
Ok, I started off hating this song, but it grew on me.
6. Elvenking- Trows Kind
It's Italian folk-metal with an electric violin, with terrible fantasy lyrics, but I like it.
7. Mellisa Ferrick- Never Give Up
I feel like a 40 year old housewife whenever I listen to this song, but it's upbeat and uplifting!
8. Sixpence None The Richer- Kiss Me
This doesn't fit with my taste at all, yet I grew up liking it, and I still like it.
9. Hootie and the Blowfish- Only Wanna Be With You
Once again, a childhood love, whenever I hear it, I enjoy it.
10. Blink-182- Adam's Song
Since I saw that other people were mentioning Blink 182 as a guilty pleasure I will too, another band I grew up loving, and this is the only song I still like by them.

Lol, at least you got a positive comment! :)

But seriously, I love Air Supply, not much people I know like them though :(

Sweet Dreams <3

Flower Child 03-30-2010 07:22 PM

1. Never Too Much - Luther Vandross
God what an awful song and I even put it on my ipod.
2. Blue Moon of Kentucky - Bill Monroe
I always make sure my volume is down really low when I listen to this around other people. Don't worry I have it blasting when I'm alone in my car.
3. De Camino a la Vereda - Buena Vista Social Club
Again if I got caught listening to this I would seriously get beat up. Oh but I love it- brings out my inner Cuban. :D
4. Saturday Night Fever - Bee Gees
No explanation needed
5. The Ride - David Allen Coe
God I hate this man with every fiber of mybeing, but I do enjoy this song
6. Celebration of the Lizard (or whatever its called) - The Doors
Have you guys listen to this madness?
7. Why Don't You Do Right? - Jessica Rabbit
This song is so sexy, I never feel as if I should be listening to it as much as I do.
8. Helena - The Misfits
I don't know why 'if I cut off your arms and I cut off your legs, would you still love me anyway' appeals to me, but it does.
9. Raspberry Beret - Prince
I won't say I've never danced my heart out to this :D
10. Its a Beautiful Morning - The Rascals
Their name alone is embarassing

Sansa Stark 03-30-2010 09:43 PM

Raspberry Beret is the ****!

captaincaptain 03-30-2010 11:06 PM

In no particularly embarrassing order...

ABBA - Take A Chance - Only ABBA song I can really stand
2 Live Crew - Me So Horny - I love the FMJ sample.
Blues Image - Ride Captain Ride - Pure 70's soft rock
The Cowsills - The Rain, The Park and Other Things - The original Partridge Family
REO Speedwagon - Keep On Loving You - Catchy
Terrance Trent D'arby - Wishing Well - always thought he had an awesome voice
Jermaine Stewart - We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off - fun song to dance to until I found out that he did take his clothes off and died of AIDS
RATT - Round and Round - obligatory 80's rock song
Bloodhound Gang - Bad Touch - My wife and I have sex doggystyle so we can watch X Files (and the news)
Edison Lighthouse - Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)- another catchy 70's pop song

Insane Guest 03-30-2010 11:19 PM

You have to have that one song that your friends would at least chuckle at you for having it. Mine would be Who Can It Be Now? - Men At Work

+81 03-31-2010 12:17 AM

Lady Gaga - Just Dance

Yeah but it's not your guilty pleasure, Paloma. xD
You're outwardly in love with her.

Sansa Stark 03-31-2010 01:19 PM

I know I know, she used to be a guilty pleasure then I just let go, and let Gaga.

I remember when Vanilla turned me.

U2 ~ Zooropa

Imperfect Haze 04-02-2010 08:02 PM

Well, my media player is full of songs most people wouldn't admit to having listened to even once, but ... hmm.

Does the "Mother Lover" digital short from SNL count?

Other than that, just throw in ten random Disney songs, 'cuz I love me some Disney.

Men at Work's Down Under is a very guilty pleasure of mine! Makes me homesick though! I think it's ridiculous that they were sued for having the flute melody too similar too child's rhyme 'Kookaburra.' So stupid. It's like one bar :banghead:

dankrsta 04-27-2010 10:41 AM

^ Used to love this one as a kid, and I still think it's a neat little song to this day. Gotta love that fiddle.

Natalie Imbruglia - Torn
^ Another one that was all over the place when I was in junior school, and another one I still like today.

Lighthouse Family - High
^ Yeah, most of these are songs I liked as a kid and still do to varying degrees today, and this is no exception to that little rule.

Aswad - Don't Turn Around
^ This one's from Aswad's latter-day, over-produced, fairly dated reggae-pop phase in the 80s. A lot of what I've heard from that era I hate, but this one never fails to put a smile on my face.

All Saints - Never Ever
^ Just a great pop song this, no matter how much else of their stuff and ilk I can't stand.

I'll name-drop the other five some other time I guess.

I never picked the other five did I? I guess I'll do that before I head out for a bit then...

Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time
^ Cheesy as hell, dripping in saccharine (sp?), hideous hairdos and all that, but I still think this a top-drawer pop song.

David Bowie - Never Let Me Down
^ Before anyone says anything, the album this song's named after stands as a notorious example of how the mighty can fall. I won't disagree - it's an awful album. Regardless of that, the title track is still one of my 10, maybe even 5 favourite Bowie tunes.

Abba - Take a Chance On Me
^ The one song of theirs I can stand for. Superb little song.

Delerium - Silence
^ Definitive dance-pop bilge to some, great little tune I remember from back when I was a nipper for me.

Paul McCartney & Stevie Wonder - Ebony and Ivory
^ A lot of my nights out end in drunken singalongs of this tune (only if there's potential for a duet though in case you're wondering).

downwardspiral 04-28-2010 05:53 AM

ahh, that Delerium song is such a tune. i love all the trance anthems from the 90s. stuff like Sandstorm by Darude, Tocas Miracle by Fragma, Turn Around by Phats and Smalls and 9PM by ATB to name a few. so many good songs from around that era.

I haven't heard (well...read) Fragma or Darude's names in about 10 years! I think I just about remember little snippets of those tunes too. Back when I lived down south I used to go to school in a taxi, and it was always either Radio 1 or Kiss 100 so, as you can probably imagine, I was hearing a lot of that kinda thing back in the day.

downwardspiral 04-28-2010 06:01 AM

every now and then I just have a complete 90s day, which usually turns into 90s week. I just love that era so much. wish I was a bit older to have appreciated it a little more at the time, but I still have memories of the music from then.

Yeah, I'm only 21 (22 in June) myself, so the closest I ever got to having my ears to the ground musically in the 90s was hearing stuff like Oasis' Roll With It on GMTV or whatever. I do like a lot of 90s electronica, but I tend to stay away from a lot of trance - more into progressive house and big beat like the Chemical Brothers, Leftfield, Prodigy, Underworld and so on. It's great to just crank some of the former once in a while though.

downwardspiral 04-28-2010 06:35 AM

yeah man. I'm 19, 20 in August, but I have a pretty good memory so I have a massive spotify playlist FULL of stuff I love from the 90s. a lot of dance, a lot of alternative stuff and a fair bit of pop. stuff like Sixpence Non The Richer, The Wannadies, Alanis Morissette, Third Eye Blind, Ocean Colour Scene, Suede, Faithless, Fatboy Slim, Chemical Bro's, Eagle Eye Cherry, Sneaker Pimps, Underworld, Basement Jaxx, Deep Blue Something. mainly bands that were around then and didn't progress further into the next decade.

so much stuff. i dig it hard. 90s is more than likely my favourite ever decade.

Haha Toca's Miracle, that's a blast from the past!

Now to destroy all my credibility in one post. I mean Savage Garden and Barry Fucking Manilow are in my list. Links provided so that you too can revisit music that was popular in 90s Australia (most of the list). :D

Natalie Imbruglia - Torn
Just a really good pop song. Come to think of it, I don't even feel guilty about listening to this (and I'm sure anyone reading this likes it too).

Alanis Morissette - You Oughta Know

Because Flea's on bass

Limp Bizkit - The One
Great bassist, ****ty band.

Savage Garden - To the Moon & Back
I have no excuses here and I'm dying of shame

Jennifer Paige - Crush
Childhood nostalgia suppressing blood flow to my brain

Kate Ceberano - Pash
Ditto

Barry Manilow - Mandy
This is a new low

Foreigner - I Want to Know What Love Is
FML

Phil Collins - Two Hearts
This feels like confession

Rod Stewart - Sailing
I'm definitely going to hell

Runners-Up:
Haddaway - What Is Love?
Tavares - Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel
Pseudo Echo - Funky Town
John Farnham - You're the Voice

Duran Duran is nothing to be ashamed of :)
Lily Allen is a cutie and her songs are pretty catchy and funny. I wouldn't normally like her style but she has something about her.
The Bangles - Walk Like an Egyptian. I second this as well. I would have to add a few songs by The Go-gos as well
And Pat Benetar is awesome.

ThePhanastasio 01-28-2011 07:56 PM

This thread actually looks like it was a great deal of fun! I'm bumping 'er up, since it hasn't been updated in...months.

My guilty pleasure songs are pretty embarrassing...

1.) Nena "99 Luftballoons"
2.) Limahl "The Neverending Story"
3.) Steve Perry "Oh Sherry"
4.) Prince "Purple Rain"
5.) Fall Out Boy "Sugar, We're Going Down"
6.) Ke$ha "Tik Tok"
7.) Journey "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)"
8.) Bruno Mars "Grenade"
9.) Backstreet Boys "Shape Of Your Heart"
10.) Plain White T's "Hey There Delilah"

...Yes, I'm judging myself for this.

Queen Boo 01-29-2011 12:42 AM

I listen to Mindless Self Indulgence, Ke$ha, Britney Spears, Amy Winehouse, Motley Crue, My Chemical Romance, Green Day, Guns 'n Roses, Tom Petty, Lily Allen, Slayer, Andrew WK, Throbbing Gristle, Fall Out Boy, and Hole on occasion and find no sense in feeling guilty about it.
