Ha! Clark kind of blew me away with that one as well, she managed to have a fair bit of variety on it while still keeping a pretty unique and consistent sound... not a bad track on the whole album, IMHO.

Judas Priest - Sad Wings Of Destiny (1976)

I'm not a huge Priest fan to be fair. They became everything that I hate about the genre- terrible clothes, lyrical cliches and a general sense of bombast. However SWOD is near enough THE quintessential Metal album.

Combining (now trademark) classic riff templates with moments of intricacy: acoustic breakdowns, tempo changes and superb atmosphere. Hell this is probably the first Prog Metal album! From the melodic mid section of 'Victim Of Changes' to the balladry of 'Dreamer Deciever', this album represents just how sublime Metal can be. It adds kudos to the genre in spades, yet it rarely gets the attention that it deserves. Metal can be intelligent, well written and performed. Forget the image you have of JP as cliched 'Metal Gods' and listen to the best 70's pure metal album by far.

Album opener Victim Of Changes:

Dreamer Deciever:

Let me know what you think of it as I think it's just you & me who have that album and I would love to hear another opinion.

No. As I said I'm not a huge fan. SWOD and British Steel is about it for me. they are basically caricature now.

I liked it on the first listen. It really puts you in a weird mood. The fact that I enjoy most of Lynch's films made the album more enjoyable. But I did find it somewhat monotonous and the vocals were kind of annoying. Besides that, I think it's a good album.

This is being abandoned and a definitive top 100 from myself will be compiled instead. I am going to take at least 6 months to plan this though and write reviews before posting them as I always write reviews spontaneously usually.
