Default What genre of music is this?

I've been listening to songs by U2, and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me the genre of music the guitars is. Listen to beautiful day, I still haven't found what I'm looking for, and with or without you (all by U2) - I'm asking what type of music is the guitar by itself? The guitar makes these really cool sound effects, they're really peaceful like with a tremolo arm. Basically, what type of music is the guitar with the drums and the beats, but without the vocals. It's sort of peaceful guitar music, but I'm not sure what genre that is.

Thanks.

Guitar pop. Edge was the best (maybe only good) part of U2.

I agree. With both of those statements.
I'd say guitar pop or soft rock perhaps?

I didn't say I like the Edge. I just said he was the best thing about U2.

The Edge is the best thing about U2 even though he is still a crap guitarist. He just relies too much on good guitar sounds rather than good riffs

I'd say Stone Roses, Suede, Jesus & Mary Chain, House Of Love, Teenage Fanclub, Big Star are some good artists to look into.
