Scared of KaZaA?

I stopped using KaZaA after RIAA busted like 260 individuals for file swapping. Have you stopped using it? What do you think about it? I buy most of my CDs, but what do you do when you want like one song or something rare? That's what KaZaA was perfect for. Oh well, I'm not letting myself get busted for something that stupid.

OzzieJess 12-21-2003 02:14 AM

download WINMX!!!! i have to download my new favorite bans music cos they haven't but out a cd in Australia yet!

exasko 12-21-2003 04:30 PM

Nope... I am not to scared, it now downloading that they get you for. It's sharing.. I turned off my sharing

MobilizeTerror 12-21-2003 05:13 PM

I am not afraid to use it because of RIAA. They are a bunch of cry-baby's. But I know for a fact that KaZaa has spyware that will really screw your computer bad. I had to reformat my hard drive because of spyware. It makes pop ups come up all the time and makes your computer run ssssssssssssslllllllllooooooooowwwwwwwww.

Rockafella Skank 12-21-2003 05:23 PM

If you want to use KaZaA then you should try KaZaA Lite. It's the same thing as KaZaA except it has no spyware and no banner ads.

MobilizeTerror 12-21-2003 05:27 PM

It is almost impossible to find Kazaa lite after they cracked down on hacked versions of kazaa. I searched on google and it said they removed some sites from google that included kazaa lite because of sharman networks requested to do so. lol

OzzieJess 12-21-2003 08:38 PM

i figure if i get catch which i shouldn't i'll just act dumb n say that i couldnt find the music any other way n that Australia don't have good music

MobilizeTerror 12-21-2003 10:00 PM

They only look for people with 1000's of songs, so if you have a couple or mayber 100 you don't have much to worry about, plus what i posted before is - The RIAA's lost profit claims are labeled silly by judge, and the judge also denies the RIAA the ability to subpoena ISPs for subscriber info. Let the downloads commence.

OzzieJess 12-21-2003 10:16 PM

yes i only have 200 or so... so i'm ok!

Rockafella Skank 12-21-2003 10:31 PM

Also, I think they're only busting people in the United States and no place else. The US has the strictest copyright laws for the Internet than any place else. So OzzieJess, you shouldn't be worried.

the chances of my getting flesh eating disease are about the same as a me spontaneously combusting or being shot by lighting. in other words, I don’t consider my chances of getting in some kind if trouble enough to worry about

IamAlejo 12-23-2003 07:47 AM

I live in the US but im not worried at all. I got kazaa-lite (the latest version they made) which prevents the authorities from seeing your ip when you download music, so basically they can't get me at all. And even if they did, i don't share, i just download. They are going after the people sharing 1000+ files.

MobilizeTerror 12-23-2003 08:31 AM

Here is what you do - every 200 songs or so that you have burn it on a cd and delete them and start over, and don't let anyone download off of you, or you could just not download and buy the cd, or only download at your friends house.

GOD_there_is_no_ 12-23-2003 09:28 PM

i use Kazaa lite K++ and Winmx. i'm not scared cuz i live in Canada

...happened to me i was sharing 584 files and i wasnt afraid they would do something, it just effed up my comp bad...all the spyware and corrupt files.

Xarius 12-23-2003 10:25 PM

I'm still using it...but I don't have THAT many songs. there's under 200 on this computer, and another 500 or so (some doubles, and some of my sister's) on another computer.

Rockafella Skank 12-23-2003 10:47 PM

I'm not saying that pirating is right, but for all all you people that don't live in the United States... I don't think you have to worry about RIAA for now. I think you're fine.

Rockafella Skank 12-24-2003 12:44 PM

Here's some good news for Euro KaZaA users.

The Supreme Court of the Netherlands has ruled that P2P software such as Kazaa is legal. In doing so, they rejected the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry's (IFPI) demands that Kazaa distribution be stopped and its owners (Sharman Networks) forced to pay royalties for the files transfered on their network. The IFPI also wanted the Kazaa's code modified to filter out copyrighted material.

jacatone 12-24-2003 06:41 PM

You can get a copy of Kazaa Lite from: www.zeropaid.com. See the attachment for selecting the correct options to cir***vent the RIAA. You can also run this program through a proxy server. Find some server in Pakistan or Iran.

lgcg50 12-26-2003 10:17 PM

not scared

I use kazaa lite...it creates a false IP address which makes it impossible for you to be traced...so basically it leads whomever is trying to find you on a wild goose chase (at least i think so, that is how my computer guy friend explained it to me)... so just download kazaa lite and you're set...

C.Criggy 12-26-2003 10:27 PM

too bad its impossible to find :banghead:

It's not impossible to find!!!!!!!!!! in fact it's quite easy to find...you can even use your current version of kazaa to dwonload it...or i can send it to you...either way let me know

RedBassGirl 02-19-2005 08:04 PM

hmm, i used to have kazaa, most of the songs i copied directly from the cd anyway (all my firneds that came to visit had to lend me one or two cds to copy them , i like variety), but then the spyware screwed up mu pc and it had to be reformanted, the guy who helped me couldn't access the hard drive and all of my 500 songs, reports for school, fotos and other important stuff was lost. so i need to redo my collection. any of you could post some links to free download pages, hopefully not spyware?
i'd really apreciate that.

jesus 02-19-2005 08:15 PM

I don't use Kazaa, because Kazaa is stupid. Kazaa can die.

Soundgardener 02-19-2005 10:49 PM

I cant believe I'm the first one to say this, but download Limewire...

jesus 02-19-2005 11:25 PM

I have limewire

A2L 02-20-2005 03:04 AM

I have it too, but you can get alot of spyware using that...

Slsk is still my favorite for albums though...

hookers with machineguns 02-20-2005 08:35 AM

^ I'd recommend soulseek too, it's much better than limewire or winmx in my opinion. Kazaa and its replicas are nothing but annoying spyware and raunchy porn clips. But as long as you arent sharing too many songs and don't keep a music library of like 10,000 or so songs, then you should be okay. Another thing is, once you download Kazaa, it's really hard to get it off your computer.

zerophyte 02-20-2005 10:26 AM

yeah, soulseek is the best i've found, especially if you're looking for anything remotely rare. eMule is the best for full albums tho. I never use KaZaa or Morpheus, Limewire or WinMX... i've tried them all, none as good as soulseek and eMule. BTW, if you want to stay safe, use a program called PeerGuardian, easiest way... it blocks all the IP's of the RIAA and all those types of agencies... google for it...

spearmint 02-21-2005 10:27 AM

I use bearshare...and I don't share anything...but I'm not afraid of spyware as I have a seperate computer that I download them onto and if I get any adware/spyware/malware I just wipe the disk and start again...

Fenixpunk 02-21-2005 10:58 AM

I use Kazaa lite, it works for me, found alot of stuff i was looking for on it.

dog 02-22-2005 05:37 AM

gives u viruses and stuff kazaa does.

Fenixpunk 02-22-2005 12:38 PM

havent had one yet, been using it for awhile. Keep an eye on what youre downloading, and make sure to keep your anti-virus **** current and you shouldnt have any problems.

CrAzyBeAuTiFul 02-22-2005 01:09 PM

that **** ****ed up my comp

spearmint 02-22-2005 01:49 PM

^ Oh.

I always think that getting a virus off a peer to peer is either to do with luck or human error. There must be a way of telling whether something comes with a virus, as viruses aren't usually hard to find with something like that (where you can see the file) Spyware will always be a problem. But alot of people don't know what spyware is...it was originally made for programs that you can only use for a certain period of time and they're the things that stop you using it. When downloading they can easily pass through. all said and done the signs of spyware are easy to spot and it's easy to remove (ad-aware, spy bot, or the new microsoft remover) Oh and the viruses don't come from Kazaa itself but from the people you're sharing files with and stuff as it makes you visable to hackers and people who'll send you viruses. It's like if you have a firewall, makes you invisable and if you have Kazaa people can see you clearly...(Sorry for the length I just felt the need to type.

Anarchy doll 02-23-2005 06:38 PM

I just downloaded Limewire. I have slowspeed, cable internet, and limited memory, but it has worked pretty good I must say. I just run both Adaware and Spybot at the end of a day of using it...plus ppl can chat you on Limewire, so that's pretty cool!
