Tdoc210's 100 bands that I enjoy

Basically this is not a best of list but 100 bands that I enjoy the most it is not really in order up until the end

#100
Skinny Puppy
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/b...s-u-316/SP.jpg

Not many people that i know of have heard of this band, a few people on this forum have im sure. You can classify it as industrial, it is not really that grinding industrial, though they are the forerunners, being around since the early 80's. Ogres vocals are frightening and their stage presence is ominous. The lyrics vary usually they are very good.
They have influenced many a band nine inch nails takes their sound from them, although trents horrible vocals does them no justice.
Good albums
Mythmaker ( more accessible)
Vivisect VI ( very good)
Too Dark Park ( i enjoy it, may not be their best)

they have a ton of studio albums if you want
one i can probably upload it

related bands.... Ministry....killing joke?

overall 8/10

tdoc210 11-10-2008 11:04 AM

can someone change the thread title to bands i enjoy

FaSho 11-10-2008 08:15 PM

De Mysteriis dom sathanas was the second black metal album that I ever got into, the first being the lesser known woship him by sameal. Upon hearing this after spending the 6 hours downloading it on dialup, i was utterly shocked that this music existed. It was repulsively good. Atilla's vocals are gargled and harsh, the whole atmosphere of the album wasthe darkest i ahd ever heard. I got the rest of their discography and it was very intense, though lacking in production.

Albums recommendations ... De mysteriis dom sathanas, Grand declaration of war, ordo ad Chao, deathcrush ep

similar bands burzum, emperor

jackhammer 11-11-2008 02:45 AM

You do know the history of that cover don't you? A warning for the content of the album cover would have been advisable for those who may be offended. I will add one.

4ZZZ 11-11-2008 03:18 AM

I am not offended in anyway but the album cover seems to be an attempt to shock and seems rather pointless in this day and age. Considering the amount of violence that is readily available via TV, internet etc nothing really shocks anymore so in the end what is the point of it?

I don't know the story about the cover so maybe someone can tell me.

FireInCairo 11-11-2008 03:24 AM

Singer blew his head off with a shotgun (im assuming this is a photo of it)
The rest of the band ate his brains in a stew
and made necklaces out of his skull

4ZZZ 11-11-2008 03:31 AM

Naive question time. That is the concept of the album?

FireInCairo 11-11-2008 03:38 AM

no....thats what happened unfortunately
Black metal types.

4ZZZ 11-11-2008 03:48 AM

I have just been reading about it all via a few links I found. I am not too sure what to think. It all seems sad and insane. I am not too sure that I have any interest in hearing the music at all.

FireInCairo 11-11-2008 03:50 AM

I heard chainsaw guts****
a few years back
it was pretty ****e
black metal tends to pride itself on terrible production

Comus 11-11-2008 07:13 AM

Mayhems history is about as intersting as its music. There's better black metal out there, but just based on pure influence Mayhem are definitely one of the bigger bands.

Right Track got me into this band a couple years back, I enjoyed it then and I think I appreciate it alot more now, even though ive gotten into alot of different post punk bands. My favorite album is The Skys gone out. They covered David Bowies Ziggy Stardust, I ind it to be a pretty flawless take on it. peter murphy is a creep though.

good albums... The skys gone out. The compilation

similar bands the birthday party , christian death , alien sex fiend

It was'nt a criticism, just a moderators observation. Nice call on Skinny Puppy. Ever heard of this film? DVD Review - Deadbeat at Dawn: Collector's Edition Jim Van Bebber has a few ties with Skinny Puppy and I have this disc. Great film and extras.

no one made a stew
but the necklace is true, members of sameal have some of it.
Immortal too I think.
only bands that were considered worthwhile by Euronymous
anywho the cover art is real taken when Euro found Dead, he than took fragments of his skull. Dead cut his wrist, than shotgunned himself, leaving behind a note that said Excuse the blood

Astronomer 11-11-2008 08:14 PM

Well. Fair enough!

tdoc210 11-11-2008 08:45 PM

Im surprised no one cares about bauhaus

Jethro Tull

http://www.soundstagedirect.com/medi...l_aqualung.jpg

Jethro tull were an important band for me growing up. My parents both enjoyed them, when they split up I guess it kinda just reminded me of them. However listening to them now I appreciate the folk like influences they had in their music. I like albums that are acoustic yet convey a heaviness, not my favorite of this genre, theres a couple that will be close to the end of the list, but they have some of the best albums I have heard.

In my opinion their bets album is benefit. In the best sense I would say that they peaked with Aqualung. Anyways benefit conveyed a sense of emotion that I had never had before. it was a mixture between fear and loneliness. The vocals seemed pained and distraught, mixed with the heavy wood tone i felt as though i was lost on a journey in the middle of a wintery day, while the dark skies beared down upon me. keep in mind i was in the woods. I have this album on vinyl just because I love it so much.

Aqualung is an excellent album. It is musically better than benefit but I have my own likes.

Albums to get - Benefit, Aqualung, Heavy horses, Minstrel in the gallery, a passion play, Thick as a Brick.

Don't worry
I love bauhaus

...but i HATE Jethro Tull
Stupid boring Hippy music with Ian Anderson's horrendous flute playing all over it (my flautist girl friend has taught me to hate his playing)

Demonoid 11-12-2008 01:02 AM

Good call on Jethro Tull & Skinny Puppy! 'Thick as a brick' is an obvious favorite of mine. It does have a coupe of weak passages here and there, but overall, the good far outweigh the bad. And not to forget, the lyrics/story, as silly as some of it might seem, works really well here.(and definitely got the message across)
Mayhem...I find that there's better black metal out there than that. But anyways, It's not my list :p:

Sitting On A Park Bench...

Zer0 11-12-2008 05:29 AM

Yeah Bauhaus were great, In The Flat Field was a great album. My fav Bauhaus song for some reason is Bela Lugusi's Dead.

kthedrummer 11-12-2008 06:41 AM

Good call on Jethro Tull. Remember when they beat out Metallica for the Heavy Metal grammy. I know that still has to kill Lars and James that a band with a flute player beat them. I like Songs From the Wood also.

4ZZZ 11-12-2008 06:59 AM

I caught Tull live in the late 70's. Sensational. Ian had the crowd eating out of his hand.

Wolves in The Throne Room
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5.../wittr_2-2.jpg

So you think all black metal is the same?
Well I believe that you are wrong sir
Wolves in the throne room are an excellent example of a newer black metal band creating something new. It has the typical atmosphere, but lyrically, and musically this band is totally different. Diadem of the 12 stars is amazing and I recommend that everyone get that album immediately.
