Yeah, but as I mentioned it's the regression of optimism at every album.
There isn't a lot of it, but there's sure more than there is in Daisy.
TDAG is in my Top 10 all time faves.

yeah, I see what you mean.

TDAG is certainly one of my favorites too.

Probably going to listen to Your Favourite Weapon later.
I've been watching American Pie & Road Trip and seem to be going through a real nostalgia for High School and the times associated with it at the moment.

I think my favourite album of theirs is actually Your Favourite Weapon. It's not perfect. It's not trying to be technical brilliance or be pretentious. It's just some young guys writing angst filled songs about ex-girlfriends and broken hopes. I just resonate with it on so many levels. Not to mention it's shamelessly catchy.

I once read that a lot of the lines you'd think are about girls are about the lead guy from Taking Back Sunday.

Brand New is one of my favorites, but I kinda lost interest after 'God and the Devil are Raging Inside Me' .. that was an amazing recording. I like a couple songs on Daisy, but... they just changed too much. I'd love to hear them come out with something more like Deja again.

See my thoughts are that on Brand New's earlier releases, the lyrics and songs convey the image of a young man growing up and dealing with the emotional burden that is everyday life.

Each release shows a maturation of the band, yet before Daisy each was glazed with a degree of optimism that things would improve, with each album signalling a decline in that optimism and possible youthful naivety.

By the time Daisy rolls around, this optimism has gone. The youthful naivety heard in earlier records such as Your Favourite Weapon has gone.
It's a sign of growing up, a sign of someone who can now see the world, see his emotions for what they were. Someone who has now given up hope.

There's no optimism. It's bleak, it's broken. They're beyond the stage where they can assure themselves things will get better.

Daisy is that final call for salvation, a bleak, broken record knowing things will never return to the simplicity life once was where it was all about girls taking semesters abroad or about how one would comprise a mixtape full of Smiths song in an attempt to prove to his youthful self he were not alone.

Daisy's given up on the past and is looking at the present and the bleak future.

That's what I think about Daisy as a record.

thats a good way of explaining it. even in terms of the band, i thought everything u said applies. YFW was that angsty uptempo basic chord stuff, then Deja was more mature and that album was the first time i felt like i knew what ppl meant when they said a bands album 'showed maturity'.

then devil and god was such a different sound than i expected but it grew on me so quickly and i loved that album. i also loved the fght ff yr dmns leaked demos that came out before devil and god. if you havent heard them, please get on that immediately. very cool stuff

im not sure myself, i think i'd give the nod to YFW. cause like u said, its not tryin to be more than what it is. it reminds me of being a teenager and early 20s. very catchy, love how brand new has always has jesse doing a screaming type of vocal alongside his normal vocals on the first 2 albums

yes and no. theres no I in team by taking back sunday is about brand new. and seventy times seven by brand new is about taking back sunday. i used to be more well verses in this beef like 7 years ago lol. but i think the lead singer of brand new was in taking back sunday in the early years. and someone slept with someones sister or something i think. then they had a beef for a long time.

Saw them last night after they've been my favourite band for years.
Really ****ing good. So loud and energetic.
They started off with a lot of distortion and droney noise and used it as a transition between songs and different eras of the band.
They started with Shower Scene and moved onto Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades

They hopped around all over their discography. The setlist is here
Brand New Concert Setlist at Barrowlands, Glasgow on April 15, 2014 | setlist.fm

Crowd cooled off a little in the middle when they played four songs from Daisy back to back, which has always been the dark, enigmatic album.
But they went wild for the big tracks off of Deja.

Jesse forgot the words during the performance of Millstone and had to start again, suppose it's been nearly 10 years since the album was released.

Was hoping there'd be an indication of new material, it's been six years since Daisy, and nothing. No new music, at all. Odd.
I went because I was under the impression that this may be their last tour. Nothing new in six years and cancellations of many gigs/festival appearances would point to internal problems but the band never let it show during their performance.

One of the most breathtaking, pulsating life performances I've seen. The guy from Saves the Day (one of the support acts) said during their set that they are one of the best live bands to see, and he was right. They were incredible. Couldn't have asked for more (although I'd have split up the Daisy tracks and played Archers and Jude Law..)
