I relate some songs to God more than people even if they probably weren't intended that way. "The Reason" by Hoobstank and "Rise Above This" by Seether are a couple. A lot of Creed songs, for me, are the same way.

I would say a Christian band is a band formed for the purpose of spreading a Christian message while a band of Christians is a band formed for the purpose of making music and it just so happens that the members are Christians.

christian band: musical vehicle for christians.
band of christians: more than one christian, the earliest example being the apostles.

I can only imagine the crazies at a Christian music festival or concert. Talk about raving lunatics and false beliefs.
