Default Music that is unlistenable yet somehow enjoyable

unlistenable isn't a word, whatever.

You know the type, the bands you listen to even though their music makes your brain melt.

Your Only Massive does that to me. Technically, they would be considered horrible, but a duo irish female alternative hip hop act with virtually no prior experience proves to be quite enjoyable from time to time.

GY!BE and Melt-Banana are some others who are charged as unlistenable in my book, but the music is still good.

Who else is guilty of this?

I have this album called "Freddy's Greatest Hits" by The Elm Street Group. The Elm Street Group is basically a super generic 80's girl band singing songs with titles like "Do The Freddy" "Down In The Boiler Room" and a cover of "Wooly Bully", and every now and then Freddy Krueger will chime in with a tone deaf chorus or cackle or something.

It's pretty awesome.

Boredoms' mid-nineties output (Super Roots 1-9) was devoid of tonal progression as was Negativland's entire fecking discography. Aphex Twin's pretty brutal in some places...

One word, Suicide!

I know I've posted this several times before but...

I also find "Spit Tastes Like Metal" incredibly satisfying, yet unlistenable.

This is an album I bought because I fancied the drummer, he looks lovely

But seriously, this was a band of girls who were pushed by their father to make a record, its rumoured that they were so bad, the studio engineer walked out a number of times in protest.

The music is truely awful, the instruments are all out of tune, the drumming is lame and out of time with the guitars, which are also out of time with the vocals, which again, are truely terrible, safe to say that this is a horrid piece of work, my grandad could play better and he's dead.

But strangely this album is not in the bottom of the canal, or gathering dust somewhere in the apartment, oh no, its out and gets played quite often, its like a guilty pleasure for me, I would never play it to anyone through fear they would uncontrollably start hurting me, but for me, its strangely appealing.

Heh. I've heard about that album. Never listened to it though.

most breakcore is f*cked to the point of being unlistenable to anybody expecting consistency or whatever listenable is supposed to mean. Here's breakcore radio! breakcore tag – Music at Last.fm

i'm into it though, it's brilliant on headphones. More interesting to listen to at length than say... Merzbow (who still has his moments of glory)

GY!BE are pretty listenable.

Some of Ikue Mori's stuff is like asfsadff what. But I like her. Same with Sun Ra and Melt Banana, I guess.

Einsturzende Neubauten. An industrial band in every sense of the word!

I think The Locust deserve a mention in this thread.
