My fave Lana song.

A lot of the more mellow post-punk and indie acts out there bore the snot out of me. I've never been able to listen to more then a few Joy Division songs before getting the uncontrollable urge to listen to something else. I was listening to Carissas' Weird yesterday, and same thing. Not awful and I can hear why some people might love them, but *yawn*. But this band seems so alien with their vocals that I can't help but be fascinated. Joy Division's singing just sounds so goofy and eighties to me that I have a hard time taking them seriously, but this woman's singing is just so oddball that it somehow feels timeless. I'm definitely gonna have to listen to more of them.

I'm late finding out about these guys. I guess they broke up?

The singer's name is Elizabeth Fraser.

This may be familiar...

Another one of her notable contributions to This Mortal Coil's debut album. It was a collection of artists from the 4AD label that had a number of albums. It'll End in Tears is a strong album, and it even had a small release in the US back in the day when their albums were usually found in the imports.

Joshua White is the pianist of this group, and he's based in San Diego. I've seen him play a few times at my college, a jazz club, and a restaurant, and he usually puts on a good performance.
