The keyboard "solo" around 2:00 is the most gloriously cheesy and ****ty thing ever.

I mean, it's not, but it's still not an insult. That album pretty much made 90% of indie dweeb bands redundant over a decade before they even existed.

Yeah, I love how it's simple, accessible, fun pop, but there's all this weird **** just under the surface that the band uses without beating you over the head with it. Like that repetitive drum beat in "Modern World" reminds me of something I'd hear from the Monks rather than the Beatles or the Kinks or whoever. In another life they could have been huge without the plebs even knowing how different they were.

I don't really listen to Jon Spencer albums as albums tbh, cause he's really not much of a songwriter so far as I can tell. I just put it on and treat it as a stream of conscious vomit of pure rock energy. They're clearly a live band first and last.
