James Chance and The Contortions came from a scene called No Wave that was a very abrasive take on the post punk movement. I highly recommend them and No Wave in general. Same scene that Swans and Sonic Youth originally came out of.
Yea heard more of them, great stuff. Bit surprised I didn't look into No Wave earlier, especially since Sonic Youth are one of my favourite bands.
