"Моя кохана", "Moya kohana" (if literally "my beloved wooman")/ I can advise you to pay attention to 2Cellos and Tina Guo. They don't play the violin, but the cello, and maybe, but that's what immediately came to my mind Quote:

Today I will post several clips of the Ukrainian singer Katya Chilly. Genres of her work: Folk, Electronic music, Pop, Rock, Trance, House (material from Wikipedia). Has a unique voice. The first two songs I posted are from her album "I am young", and the last one is from her relatively new work. Although there are even earlier albums, the clip "In the Earth" and recordings of her performances at the music festival in 1997 and later albums and separate things. He mainly sings Ukrainian folk songs in a modern arrangement. Used to use electronic music, now mainly live music. And it seems that a new stage in her work is being planned, in particular, on one of her channels she has started teaching Ukrainian folk lullabies in her performance and seems to be preparing something else. |
Thank you so much for the translations! All of them, and info about the trembita too, of course. As for Katya Chilly.... 'Folk, Electronic music, Pop, Rock, Trance, House'.... I MUST check out her music as soon as I can.

First post on the forum, hi all :)
After scouring through the strange world of online music streams, discords, and large social media sites, it's comforting to find a discussional, slow-moving place. Enjoyed the intimate Petri-Dish song. Same for the Sigur Ros, haven't really gotten into their music, but that track was graceful and comforting. Seemingly I can't post links yet, but I wanted to recommend this: James K - Drunktrack. I specifically like her YouTube page, where there are some conceptual snippets, she takes good care to put the aesthetics first. |

(I disagree with a couple of parts of song lyrics found online, but I may be wrong, any errors are my own.) You ride on through the night Ride on You ride on through the night Ride on There are visions, there are memories There are echoes of thundering hooves There are fires, there is laughter There's the sound of thousands of doves You ride on through the night Ride on You ride on through the night Ride on In the velvet of the darkness By the silhouette of silent trees They are watching, they are waiting They are witnessing life's mysteries You ride on through the night Ride on You ride on through the night Ride on Cascading stars on the slumbering hills They are dancing as far as the sea Riding o'er the land you can feel its gentle hand Leading on to its destiny You ride on through the night Ride on You ride on through the night Ride on Take me with you on this journey Where the boundaries of time are now tossed In cathedrals of the forest In the words of the tongues now lost Find the answers, ask the questions Find the roots of an ancient tree Take me dancing, take me singing I'll ride on till the moon meets the sea You ride on through the night Ride on You ride on through the night Ride on You ride on through the night Ride on You ride on through the night Ride on |

Billy Gritt - “Devil and the Damage Done”
Recorded in 2015 at Two Bodies of Water productions with James Seabrook in Edmonton, Alberta. This song “Devil and The Damage Done” is about the inner struggles of a young lad, growing up in a northern mining town in Canada. With absent parents working in the mine, he was left to his own and chose all the wrong decisions.

I would use 'discord' to describe so much else in the online social world. Currently listening to this 'light epic' production by Gothic group Nox Arcana - Eternal Champions Ordo Dracul (the image in the video) - Order of the Dragon, founded by Sigismund King of Hungary (by marriage) and Croatia (by another marriage) and then the second Bohemian to become Holy Roman Emperor (before the second Hapsburg dynasty). Famous member of Ordo Dracul: Prince Vlad II of Wallachia who took his surname Dracul from the Order.... and then fathered Vlad III Draculea (son of Dracul) or Dracul-a (according to my sweetie who has been there).... Dracula. Vlad the Impaler. Answer to the riddle near the end? Beginning at about 6:19. |

Change of pace. This video because of where I spent last week. Was SO beautiful. The only part of the lyrics that I care about.... You came to me Was like a dream.... And I wonder why I'm addicted to love Serge Devant, 4-year music degree from university in Saint Petersburg, now produces Trance music in NYC. |
I'm not really cultured on trance, or matter of fact any club-oriented genre. That track (above post) was very hypnotic and promising.
As an exception I recently enjoyed this project DJ-kicks, from HAAi. It compiles a diverse bunch of hard hitting tracks into a strong and clean mix. Found it through the inclusion of the track lähetys/transmission from Pan Sonic, their music has captivated me this year. |

I probably posted this song (actually 2 songs) below in the electronica threads, but it's so classic that it came to mind in the middle of typing the above. This would drive non-electronica lovers batty :p: (and yes video this is where I stole my avatar from)..... 'Always.... remember... the Music....' |
Couldn't agree more about enjoyment as being valuable on its own.
I say uncultured, as in my engagement with the genre(s) is rather surface-level. Plenty of great music out there that I don't know of and lots that I don't feel because I'm not in the right setting for it physically or mentally nor can I necessarily be. IMO shaming enjoyment is a cheap alternative to sharing tastes and encouraging open-mindedness. Shaming in general just tends to push people away and only serve the ones who agree with you... not that in the grand scheme of things that's always undesirable. Seeing some of the fondness for mystical atmospheres and Ukraine, and in the spirit of clubby electronic, I figured you might like this artist I just found today, Svarog, maybe the track Canyon? |

And I got sidetracked.... happens to me a lot!... one of my most favorite symphonic metal bands. THIS (from 2005) is why I started calling it 'Metal Opera' so many years ago. Her voice is indeed undeniable, gave a look apparently she dropped a Christmas album this month! From a quick listen it's also in the high-drama side of things. ---- Posting about the track Broadcast - Arc Of the Journey on another thread made me think of this Noitalinna Huraa! - Avaruuslaiva track. I've really been into their music for a couple of years. Sadly the singer Sari Peltoniemi died this summer, the appeal of their songs is heavily on her writing. Here's the opening lines: "Kun menet käymään ulkona on loppukesän yö, kuulet kuinka outo tuuli huokaisee. Se on tuuli joka pyyhkii kuuta marsin lakaisee, kun se ylitsesi kulkee palelee." Losing about 78% of the poetry it translates to --When you go outside it's a late summer night, you hear the sigh of a strange wind. It's the wind that wipes, sweeps a moon of Mars, when it passes over you, it's freezing.-- A little note on the poeticism, "it's freezing" isn't "Palelee". That word is in some sense a passive form but implies a person feeling cold... she plays with the perspective, which builds into the hooks (not in the post) lyrics about loneliness/connection and cosmic insignificance. The word (palelee) also has a tinge of despair and when said on it's own is usually thought of as a whimper, this is enhanced by the lonely setting she's laid.-- The finishing lines on the other hand I find an inspiring bit of imagery. And is also how I feel writing silly little posts online :) "Et ehkä loista tähden lailla, mutta tuikit pimeyteen ja toivot että joku näkee sen" --You may not shine like a star, but twinkle into the darkness and hope that someone is there to see it-- |

Avaruuslaiva.... Spaceship? If this is not Finnish I'm gonna feel really stupid after posting this. In that song the language itself is musical. Apparently I have never heard it before, at least not so clearly well-spoken. Funny that this should come up here because the 'hero' in the story that my sweetie is trying to write is Hungarian, and he has educated me about the history of the Finno-Ugric language group. He stresses that Hungarian and Finnish are very distantly related and one can never be confused with the other :p: But again it sounds beautiful in that video. So. Thinking about that part of the world brought one of my favorite female singer-songwriters to mind. Daughter of the leader of Swedish punk band Dag Vag (Day Road?) Lykke Li, born Li Lykke Timotej Zachrisson. Acoustic this time instead of an ear bashing techno remix like I've posted before. Lykke Li - I Know Places |

Sweet little words made for silence not talk Young heart for love not heartache Dark hair for catching the wind Not to veil the sight of a cold world Kiss while your lips are still red While he's still silent Rest while bosom is still untouched, unveiled Hold another hand while the hand's still without a tool Drown into eyes while they're still blind Love while the night still hides the withering dawn..... Love while the night still hides the withering dawn |
You described it well, she wrote it for the language to do a lot of the melodic legwork. You've GOT TO listen to their one hit Pikkuveli (little brother) the Yölinja video of it is on youtube and is an idyllic, nostalgic masterpiece. (although ½ silence... which kind of adds to it) (Not the PMMP cover!! although props to them for bringing the song more radio play)
Here's the lyrics: "Tumma on taivas ja pimennetyt puut Kun matkustan pikkuveljen luota kaupunkiin Olisin jo halunnut jäädä kotiin Herätä aikaisin aamulla lumiauran kolahduksiin Pysy aina pikkuveljenä ja lintuna, älä koskaan miehisty En meidän taloon lisää aikuisia halua Tiedän kyllä että undulaatit tapaavat Miestenvessoissa turpiinsa saada Mutta vielä pikkuveli lukee aamulla Sängyssä mun kanssa, sängyssä mun kanssa sarjakuvia" --Dusky is the sky and darkened the trees when I travel from my little brother to the city I had hoped to stay home Wake up early to the clanks of the snowplow Stay always as a little brother and a bird, never become a man I don't want more adults in our house I do know that budgies tend to get beat up in men's bathrooms But still, in the morning, my little brother reads with me In bed with me, in the bed with me comic books-- The bird bit likely referring to a nickname or at least his presence I think is one of those things that may actually translate in sentiment. The end part is painfully bittersweet... the repetition of the bed bit reads/sounds like a wondering thought of an inevitable loss of innocence and the eventual... sarjakuvia/comic books grounds the song back in a moment and time. (QUOTE) Funny that this should come up here because the 'hero' in the story that my sweetie is trying to write is Hungarian, and he has educated me about the history of the Finno-Ugric language group. (QUOTE) That's wonderful to hear, I wish there'd been someone to push linguistics on me. I've only really learned to appreciate that depth of language with the recent social blackout. The Lykke Li track was lovely. I'm only really familiar with I Follow Rivers, but will be changing that, if you have favorites from her I'm all ears. The chorus reminded me of a moment in a song by Hulda Huima - Yö On Musta (The Night Is Black) where she goes "...mut huomaan kuinka ruoho täällä kasvaa..." Another track with a superb video on youtube. |
