I'll just edit you into the list now... Anyone else? edit - Dreadnaught, I'm gonna give your album a second listen and get my review done before kicking the next trade off tomorrow. I definitely like what I've heard though. |

http://expresion.metro951.com/files/...un_Machine.jpg The Shortwave Set- Replica Sun Machine Replica Sun Machine is the second album released by British alternative/psychedelic pop band The Shortwave Set. I'd never heard of these guys, so it was quite a treat finding out about them, because I certainly liked it. From the psychedelic side comes some interesting sounds, and experimental effects. However, I can definitely see the pop side a lot more. Evident all throughout the album, especially in songs such as Now Till '69 and Harmonia, are some great, catchy vocal melodies that are easy to sing along to. Overall I enjoyed the album very much for how it combined a light psychedelic side with pop elements. I even thought I could hear some electronica in there:p: Favorite songs were: Harmonia, Now Till '69, Distant Daze Overall: 8.5/10 Thanks for sending me this album abdullah:D |
No problem story...glad you enjoyed it.
anticipation sent me The Furthur Adventures of Lord Quas: Quasimoto http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA240_.jpg I really enjoyed the album. It had a really nice underground hiphop vibe all the way through and seeing that it's from madlib I'm surprised I never heard it before. My only criticism is the immense number of skits throughout the album but the quality of the songs more than made up for that in my opinion. If you're a hiphop fan and you haven't heard it yet go check it out. I guarantee that's a decision you won't regret. |

Anyhoo, this one from Dreadnaught... Jens Lekman - Oh You're Silent Jens http://blog.dailycal.org/arts/files/...silentjens.jpg I'd be lying if I said I knew Dreadnaught's musical tastes inside-out, so I didn't really have any idea what to expect when we ended up being paired up for this thing. She did tell me it was something she initially had in mind for the last themed trade (the wintry one), so that gave me some idea, albeit a very vague one. What I ended up with was a very cold (oddly enough), downbeat and lyric-centric album, dominated by Lekman's deep, throaty vocal. It makes for an interesting, piano-led, indie-leaning slant on folk, and there definitely is a gorgeous atmosphere to the album as a whole conjured by some great performances behind the keyboard. In the main, it's a fairly sedated album and perfect for a spin or two on a cold, sober night in on your lonesome. There are one or two more uptempo moments to be found (like the terrific Maple Leaves), but in the main it's an album that's nicely summed up by the cover art. There's the occasional (sparse) use of brass and studio trickery like alternating vocal tracks dotted around here too. A very good album for sure then. It didn't exactly blow me away but, then again, it's very very rarely that a new album I get does. I'm glad I got this though, so ta for the link! |
And the results are in! Owing to the odd number of participants, I'm gonna be the one who trades with two people.
So then... Rickenbacker<--->Bulldog<--->NumberNineDream Sidewinder<--->Zarko Dieselboy<--->JackLovezHimself Anteater<--->GotJuice Lateralus<--->Anticipation MojoPinUK<--->+81 Dr.Seussicide<--->Schizotypic And the theme is of albums that feature your favourite cover art. The next trade's due to kick off on Monday January 4th at the earliest, so there's plenty of time for us all. 3...2...1...go! :D |
